For the first time in years, this release marks a break from the usual. For the Santiago, they’ve moved their operation from the General Cigar Dominicana factory, a high-capacity facility where most of the Partagas cigars are made. Instead, they moved this project across town to Tabacalera William Ventura, a boutique-style operation in Santiago. The well-known factory has carved out a reputation for producing lines for Caldwell, Freud Cigar Co., and popular other brands in the industry. Partagas is now joining that lineup.
Partagas have been a constant in the cigar space for well over a century. Owned by the Scandinavian Tobacco Group, most of its previous Dominican-made cigars were rolled at the massive General Cigar facility in Santiago de los Caballeros. With Y Nada Mas, the company takes a different approach. The blend serves as both a tribute and reset; a nod to their hometown while signaling a willingness to evolve as a brand.
The wrapper is a well-aged Habano 2000, a varietal made at the turn of the millennium. The wrapper leaf is sturdy and durable with a matte finish that feels closer to dry bark than to oil-treated wrappers. Beneath it is a Sumatra binder, chosen for the way it mutes sharper edges in a filler-heavy profile.
The filler itself is a layered mix of Piloto Cubano, Dominican Corojo, Ecuadorian tobacco, and Broadleaf. This all-star combination of fillers can easily overpower a cigar, but the brand’s master blenders managed to balance the complexity into a gorgeously constructed stick. The flavors appear in fragments. Expect notes of white pepper, earthiness, and intermittent moments of toasted sweetness that all complement each other. It’s a medium-bodied experience that’s complex and layered.
The line includes three vitolas, all available in boxes of 20. These include the Partagas Y Nada Mas Santiago Robusto 5x50, Partagas Y Nada Mas Santiago Toro 6x52, and the chunky Partagas Y Nada Mas Santiago Gordo 6x60.
The move to Ventura’s factory, paired with a more deliberate selection of tobacco, gives this cigar a different feel from past Partagas releases. From a value standpoint, you can experience a premium boutique blend from an established brand without spending a fortune.
