El Rey del Mundo Reserva Nicaragua
A wrapper TOO thick & oily?
I absolutely love the Honduran ERD line. So when a great deal came across to pick up some 10 packs of the Reserva Nicaragua line in both Robusto and Principale (Toro) size, I picked up 4 of each. Now, normally I would not buy 4 boxes worth of untried cigars, but, with the excellent track record I’ve had with the Honduran line (almost 25 years and nearly as many boxes!), I thought it was a safe move. Imagine my disappointment so far as these smokes have just not lived up to the legacy. I have a large, active humidor holding thousands of cigars, and I’ve been smoking these regularly over the four months I’ve owned them. They are in perfect condition at my preferred 65% - 73*, and have had plenty of time to “relax”. Every single cigar has required hands on attention to help the wrapper keep up with the filler. The cigars are rolled well, and draw great - so it’s not a loose/tight draw issue. The wrapper matches JR’s description: thick and oily, which is normally a great thing - but maybe these are TOO thick & oily? The flavor, while not as round and rich as the Honduran ERD robusto, is tangy & tantalizing, showing notes of sweet spice, hickory - maybe even a BBQ sauce quality. The ash is mottled white and hangs on for over an inch. Two things I’ve noticed recently; after almost 4 months in the humidor, and with temperatures on the Carolina coast now rising to the low/mid 80’s, these cigars are both tasting and behaving better. Not great, but showing some promise. Rounder flavor, and less work to keep wrapper burning properly. At this rate, I’ll slowly work through the remaining 3+ boxes, but will not likely order again, even at a steal. Not a terrible cigar by any means, but not recommended.
New to cigars but...
Roy L Hall
I’ve had 10 or so different cigars over the past month and this one is the best yet. I’d say it is even better than the Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 which is also very good. I noticed a nice sweetness from the beginning, easy draw and even burn. I got the 10 pack for $55 shipped on a huge JRs sale. I’ll definitely order again.
Great Cohiba. Memories of old Cuba
Excellent cigar. Reminds me of the cigars my grandfather smoked in Cuba in the early 60’s. Please have this available as a sampler again. Best regards
H. Upmann Crafted By AJ Fernandez
Great blend by AJ Fernandez
AJ Fernandez is always consistent with quality cigars. This is a med-full bodied cigar. Cedar flavor with bit of a cocoa aftertaste. I pick these ups whenever Jzrs offers specials on them
Okay, but not my favorite.
The vanilla is an okay cigar but it falls way short of Cheyenne. Not quite enough vanilla flavor but it is not as harsh as say Smoking Joes. I said in another review that Cheyennes were the best and they still are. But I also rated Golden Harvest as second-best. That has changed recently. Golden Harvest has changed its formula and is neither very much on vanilla and has gotten much harsher. I would rate this cigar above it now by a good ways. Seneca probably has moved up to second on my list now. If you need a little cigar to fill in when you can't afford or get Cheyennes go with either Seneca or this one.
Black & Mild Cigars
Been smoking black and mild
Been smoking black and mild for years. I keep ordering and never got a discount from J R. Don’t you give discounts once in awhile?
Romeo y Julieta 1875
I am a believer
Let me say at first did not like. But as I continued to smoke this it grew on my palate. It's a bit stronger than the macs I usually like but still a medium body cigar. The flavor and complexity of this cigar is pretty good. I am now a fan and will buy more. Good Choice with a scotch or other cocktail.
Like smoking Sambuca
This is a really nice cigar if you like Anisette. It's an old Italian guy cigar sold in Deli checkout lines but I'd never tried it. I was too much of a snob but not anymore. I was looking for a cigar to smoke around my wife who really doesn't like cigars. This one doesn't seem to repulse her. It's very richly flavored has a perfect draw really tastes like you're smoking Sambuca (only without the carbs) and lasts a surprisingly long time for a cigar this small. The smoke is billowy and sweet and you can still get a bit of the Kentucky fire-cured flavor and aroma through the anisette.
Responded to email immediately to buy two for $74, it was sold out. Why promote what is not in stock? So hard to find reliable online source:(
Romeo y Julieta Reserve
I won this five pack and was blown away by the flavor and the consistency of the burn. Nice smoke flow from cigar. Looks plan but it really great cigar.
El Rey del Mundo Reserva Nicaragua
