Hoyo Piramide Unless you don't take them out of the cellophane and let them rest in a Good humidor after receiving your order. These burn like every other beautifully oily Ecuador Sumatra wrapper I've ever smoked even the top brands they smoke slow and you can't let it sit long without relighting. But the flavor is excellent and the same as the Hoyo Camacho RP etc. 4 5 1
Hoyo Piramide I just tried the first one out of five. Had them in my humidor for about a month. Good flavor but draw was a little tight and could not kept it lit. I will keep them in my humidor a little longer before trying the next one. 3 5 1
Hoyo Piramide based on experience i feel i always gamble on the quality of JR's alternatives. lately the quality has been good. however the previous 5 pack contained 2 cigars i did not finish due to very bad construction. they tunneled canoed and the wrappers unrolled. thus the low marks for construction and consistence. these remarks apply to several of JR's limited edition varieties. never the less i continue to buy especially considering the low prices. 3 5 1

Hoyo Piramide This is a very good cigar. Well worth the price. It's a beautiful cigar that smokes great. Draw is good and the flavors are chocolate up front then mellows to a tobacco flavor w/some earthiness. It's a solid medium to full bodied cigar w/medium to full flavor. Hoyo Piramide I have purchased several JR Alternatives and have not been happy with them. My latest was the JR Edicion Limitada Alternative. Each one of them are hard as a rock. They have been in my humidor for a month and are no different. I am a HUGE JR. Fan - just not of their Alternatives. 1 5 1

Hoyo Piramide These showed up in the mail today. No aging was applied. I will likely try one every couple of months to check the effects of the aging. First off it has a wonderful construction. I got an even burn and good draw the whole cigar. I got a lot of leather and earthiness up front and a decent aroma. It picked up a little pepper towards the end. Not a lot of complexity in the flavors, but still a pleasurable smoke. For the price, this was a pleasant find. 4 5 1

Hoyo Piramide Definitely NOT a maduro wrapper as previously stated. "Ecuador Sumatra" is probably considered to be an EMS wrapper. . Saw six inches off the end of a broomstick and you might get a better draw. These are rolled way too tight ! . Cut the cigar and check the dry draw (draw - without lighting). If your cheeks cave in and your ears pop, you will need create an airway, preferably without cracking the wrapper. . A straight piece of wire coat-hanger, or a Drawpoker, and a large paper-clip with the last bend straightened will be your friends here. Using the wire coat-hanger (or Drawpoker), poke into the foot (the end you light) about 5.5". If you go all the way through, you are likely to crack the wrapper at the head. Now, re-try the dry draw. If the cigar still does not draw, use your paper-clip to poke into where you cut it. . I would like to see Connecticut broadleaf (or some other maduro) as a wrapper option. 3 5 1

Hoyo Piramide This is truly an enjoyable stick for those of use who enjoy Medium+ cigars. The Sumatra wrapper offers a nice tip-of-the-tongue red pepper spice that isn't overwhelming at mates very well with the smooth yet bold flavors that many people can associate with Nicaraguan cigars. IF you are a light-med smoker and wanting to venture into med-full I would not recommend these. Check out the JR Ultimate series. Otherwise good luck finding a stick like this with a better price tag. 4 5 1

I keep thinking the next one I smoke will be better. Alas I am deluding myself. I'm now qualified to suck start a Harley. These are among the top two worst cigars I've ever smoked. Hoyo Piramide The sticks have been in my humidor for about a month and just tried my first with my friend who loves Nicaraguan cigars. He agrees with my review. Good flavor but a bit one dimensional. Rich peppery start, but that mellows a bit as you go. Good construction, draw, and perfect burn. Never had to relight. Not my favorite, but not a bad smoke at all. For under $3, you can't go wrong if you like full-bodied Nicaraguan cigars. Interested to see how they smoke with a little more time to rest in the humidor. I say buy and try! 4 5 1

I'm smoking my third one right now and the flavor is fantastic, but three out of three the draw is so tight I finally took one of my wife's small crochet hooks and jammed it in there. Hoyo Piramide I just finished one. The construction is perfect. No soft spots the wrapper is great, and perfectly applied. The cold draw gives hints of cedar, leather,, earth, and coffee, maybe a little toast. The first inch is cedar and leather, mild medium. I cut it deep with a guillotine. So there's lots of rich smoke. The first third is the same. The flavors intensify in the second third, but remain smooth and are a solid medium. The final third the flavors intensify of course. But, still remains smooth, with some nuttiness, and dried fruit, apricot/plum. I lay it down when i smell burning moustache. It became so chewy I would have eaten it if I didn't have a sandwich waiting. I have the full line in my humidor, from buying several samplers. These are in my top ten rotation. 5 5 1
Hoyo Piramide These are by far my favorite cigar in the world! The construction, flavor, taste on the pallet, draw, aroma, is just amazing! This cigar costing about $3.40 a stick with tax and shipping costs blows away many of the $20 cigars I have had! I have turned a couple of people on to these bad boys, and everyone says that they can't believe how good they are! Hands down the best cigar in the world as far as I'm concerned. Hoyo Piramide I've been smoking JR Alternatives for better than 20 years now, and while I know what I'm getting with my regular smokes, this was a very pleasant surprise. Medium bodied, they ha e a very nice draw, even burn for the most part (I had to touch up 3 of the 5 I purchased just once each during smoking), and the underlying flavors are pretty light including some cocoa and espresso undertones; but hearty tobacco is the dominant flavor with these. A cigar smoker's cigar. I really like the aroma, too. It reminds me of a scent from years ago, but I can't put my finger on it. These sticks are tough to beat, especially for less than $3/per. Kind of amazing, actually. Try one and see for yourself. 4 5 1

Hoyo Piramide Could just be me but they got a weird flavor. Strong but bland at the same time. Kind of an ashy charcoal. I like strong heavy hitting flavorful cigars but I didn’t enjoy these. Put it out after about a quarter. Burn was uneven but not terrible. Ok draw just poor smoke production. Gonna age them longer see if they get better. Wouldn’t buy theme again though. 2 5 1

Hoyo Piramide Like most Alternatives over the last couple of years the quality control has went out the window. The cigars in a bundle that have a good burn and draw are real good. The problem is about 1/2 the cigars in a bundle have issues with the burn and draw. Very rarely you’ll get a bundle with 20 good smokes in it. I’ve been buying these alternatives for over 25 years now, what use to 2,3 or 4 bad cigars in a bundle has now become about 10. So when you take the low price into consideration with the dud cigars, it’s really not anywhere close to a good deal. More and more reviewers have been complaining about this for years but JR refuses to do anything about it. When Lew Rothman owned JR he use to take a lot of pride in the alternative line of cigars, that is not the case anymore. But in all fairness to JR, it seems like most cigars in this price category have the same issues. They just don’t make them like they used to. Even the premium brands like Romeo y Julieta or Excalibur has a couple of duds in a box. Years ago that was never the case, if you bought a box of 25, you got 25 good cigars. Now you have to spend $300.00 on Davidoff’s or Padrons to get a box of perfect cigars. The cigar industry has changed, I know, I been smoking them for 40 years. 3 5 1

I felt you had to constantly draw on it to keep lit but the construction looks really nice and the flavor was there. It is the hard draw that makes it difficult with this cigar. Hoyo Piramide These are fine Nicaraguan topedos. I just ordered some more because my humidor was low. But, they were late in being shipped, then later because of some problem with the train they were on. Then, I received notice they shipped them to my old address, which is 6-hours away. Even though I called in my order, and made sure my delivery address was corrected. Customer service (?) Told me to call UPS and have the delivery diverted. That's 6-more days, unhumidified and bouncing around, in the middle of a 100 degree heat wave. Or, I could cancel my order, wait for their return and credit to my card, then order some more, even though they're always out of stock, and wait 2-more months. I'm a JR PLUS member, and Long time customer. But, if I want to smoke one of my 3-favorite cigars, I have to drive 6-hours round trip to retrieve my cigars. Do you know how much gas is in California?!! Let alone my time and frustration. I ordered some of my favorite cigars also in that package. You pretty much have to buy them in bulk, on sale, when they're rarely in stock, just to avoid running out, and the bad taste in your mouth from this kind of stress, and the cost of gas!!! They failed to post a similar review on my favorite cigars , in that same box. Figures!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!! 1 5 1

JR needs to think long and hard about selling these. Hoyo Piramide I've always found the JR line of cigars to be a great smoking cigar and reasonably (or at least competitively) priced to other premium brands. I'd definitely recommend the JR Hoya Pyramide. I found it to be a smooth smoke with hints of cedar on the draw and a spicy exhale. The cigar burned evenly, had an easy draw, and the wrapper did not flake or come apart. 4 5 1

However, the draw is very tight and I do not get a lot of smoke. That was the case for all five of the cigars I have tried so far, and so I had to use a draw tool. 2 5 1

Hoyo Piramide I don't know if these are good cigars and have any flavor or not because I haven't been able to smoke a single one yet! They are rolled so tight that you can't get anything out of them when trying to take a draw. I Mean Absolutely Nothing!! I've tried every trick known to the cigar world to try to get them to make the slightest amount of smoke and nothing works. Not even the Perfect Draw draw enhancer! I've never encountered a cigar like these in my life! They are no exaggeration truly unsmokable! I've considered disassembling them, taking their tobacco, and re-rolling them myself using a new binder and wrapper just to try to get some of my money out of them in some way. Which brings up the biggest issue... allowing these to be sold. I'm just one of many to mention that these are unsmokable. So something is clearly wrong and therefore JR seriously needs to consider to stop selling them until they can get the issue fixed. The occasional bad cigar is just part of the game in the cigar world, but that is not what is going on here. This is just simply an issue of poor quality, bad manufacturing, and bad quality control. Actually allowing people to pay money for these things is just down right wrong and bad business! At a minimum at least pull them off the shelves until the issue is fixed, and other than that it wouldn't hurt to consider issuing some kind of refund or store credit to people that bought them after a certain date. Something needs to be done about these specific cigars because continuing to sell them is just simply wrong! 1 5 1

Hoyo Piramide This iteration has many very thick stems throughout which can be felt at the top and side through the wrapper and binder. The wrappers and any long filler and binder are 3 to 4 stars though. But the short filler under the cap is annoying. They do better with a punch or v cut or as high as possible with a guillotine cut with this pyridlmide. Ive had excellent cigars from this line circa 10 or more yrs. ago. I guess youre truly getting what you pay for...at this point in time. Paying less is no longer more...but is equally less per its current price point. Lol. 3 5 1
