Tobacco is historically grown in low-lying areas; valleys, basins, and flatlands where the heat sticks and the soil stays rich. This has always been the standard. The climate is stable. The yields are predictable. And for over a century, it’s where some of the best tobacco has come from. Plasencia Alma del Cielo breaks from that model. Grown at 3,500 feet above sea level in the mountains of Condega, Nicaragua, it’s the company’s first release to rely on high-elevation tobacco for their new line. A cigar shaped by altitude, colder nights, and where the sunlight hits a little differently. The name, which translates to “Soul of the Sky,” is more than a metaphor. It captures the essence of where the cigar is made, and according to the company, the colder nights and direct sunlight gives the cigar a specific flavor not typical in lower altitude. The soil is treated using techniques designed to create more sustainable tobacco. These conditions allow the brand to create a cigar experience that’s like no other in the world. When a family’s been growing tobacco for over 150 years, it’s no surprise that they’d be the ones to take it a step higher.
