I have enjoyed these for years and keep stocking the humidor with them. I find the draw good on almost all of them and they are very consistent. One time I A B'd one against the real Cohiba and found it a close second in comparison. The cost savings more then covers the difference. Great Smoke goes very well with coffee or even better with a chocolate flavored drink.

I got 5 of these in a sampler pack and these may have been as good as the “alternative” Cuban Monte’s. Pretty good flavor and overall worth ordering again when on sale. I took the labels off and didn’t tell anyone what they were. Just handed them out and everyone liked them. When asked what they were I just said that they are some smokes I got a deal on. Other than the ash being a little ragged and falling off prematurely they are not too bad at all. Just don’t smoke them wearing a good shirt. Would be good on a golf course.

Like WAL regarding his Cohiba Robusto review I was pleasantly surprised considering the price and size. As a long term cigar smoker I too have stuck with favorite cigars over the span of 20 plus years and have to admit I just might switch by daily routine up by mixing it up with these cigars. Joya de Nicaragua and San Lotano have been by go to cigars outside of my favorite lounge cigars but like WAL I was taken back by the scent of the in-lite cigar the ever changing scents/tastes from floral to cedar and yes a hint of coffee and vanilla which is the way I like to start my morning. I beg of everyone to listen to WAL regarding his review I agree 100% of everything he stated. I am leaving a couple of my go-to cigars behind and replacing them with this one.

this has a good pull on the draw which makes the smoke nice and dense.the construction is great burns like it should no hot spots or flavor decrease.the flavor definitely hits the spot though for a great morning smoke has a slight peppery Hit with a bit of cream on the retro hale from the Honduran.and Nicaraguan nutty taste on the tip of the tongue and on the back its smooth and creamed from a Dominican tobacco but a great cigar all and all. This was my first order from JR cigars. I certainly hope this is not indicative of all future orders. Although the flavor is very good the cigars are extremely dry. When I cut into the first one it crumbled. About 15 minutes into the smoke it was falling apart. The second was a bit better. The third the same as the first. You can't enjoy the flavor if the dog gone thing is falling apart.

the draw is generally very good some tighter than others but not too bad. doesnt vary that much as far as draw. construction almost always perfect. flavor wise is where i have issues. when I started buying these 6 years ago they were very good packed with flavor. quality in tobacco has gone down i seems and it is heavily evidenced in the flavor. prices seem to be going up while quality is going down. id rather pay more for higher quality in the flavor department. they are pretty consistent.

I was looking for a decent every day smaller cigar that wouldn't hurt the pocketbook and this one did not disappoint. I rated the flavor at mediocre. Nothing really stood out as being stellar yet is was not too mild or bitter at all. The construction was quite good for an inexpensive cigar and they burned fairly evenly with minimal requirement for relighting. I would buy them again.

REVIEW J R Cigars
J R Cuban Alternative
Cohiba Robusto
Reviewed By W.A. Lampley Jr.
Twenty years ago I acquired a box of first quality Cuban Cohiba Robustos purchased in Madrid Spain. I have had two legendary cigars in my life. By that I mean two individual cigars. Out of boxes and samplers and travels and gifts and more than twenty years a litany of fine cigars...only two truly legendary cigars.
The first was a simple little H Upmann out of an ordinary box I purchased in 1992. Out of the twenty very nice pleasant cigars in the box this One was a mystical magical once in a lifetime cigar which opened romantically like a box of love letters in an old woman's attic still redolent of the sachet she placed alongside the bundles of envelopes tied with satin ribbons. In the course of smoking the paltry 5-1/2 inch 45 ring gauge the bouquet of the cigar kept changing from floral to cedar to savory spices to coffee and chocolate crepe myrtle vetiver and vanilla and told stories of love and triumphs treasured over decades.
The second was my first Cohiba Robusto which assaulted my senses and sensibilities. Compared to the Harlequin romance of that little H Upmann this Cohiba cigar was Tolstoy Margaret Mitchell. Hemingway and Fitzgerald. Sensually the entire box was on a par with that first Cohiba but for one thing...it was my first. As fulfilling as every other Cohiba has been you only get one 'First” of anything.
Admittedly the H Upmann was a white buffalo. Something that rarely occurs and I was fortunate enough to experience it. But the Cohibas consistently surprised and satisfied me. They were always a great adventure.
Over the years mind you I've enjoyed legendary experiences which were punctuated by a great cigar to mark the occasion. But for only these two was the cigar itself the legend the occasion.
As I am retired and living on a small pension fixed income etc. I was struck by the J R Catalog pitch about smoking J R Alternatives with a bunch of retired fellas. You got me on that one. You spoke to me. So I decided to try one. I figured if this is any good at all I have to set my standard as high as possible for my experimental investment to compare just how the salesmanship measured up to the product so I chose the JRCOR the J R Cuban Alternative to the Cohiba Roubsto.
Twenty years of reflection can either enhance or diminish the memory but you guys have come really close. Here is a cigar at a price (including shipping) of about 10% the cost of its namesake. and it delivers about 80% of its promise That's an outstanding deal. Thank you.
The ring gauge of your JRCOR was disappointing because I remember the original as being somewhat fatter with a very open draw. On the other hand the construction on these sticks is medium firm squarish burning and fairly dependable. Heck even the originals could draw or burn capriciously on occasion. On balance the size doesn't really matter. I forgive you.
Concerning the buzz...you know whether or not you can keep a meal down after one of these what diminishes in comparison is in this case a good thing. These are heady enough to keep you seated for a few minutes after finishing just to savor the afterglow but mercifully not as brutal as the original Cohiba Robusto which demanded that you have a meal first and temper the smoke with at least a beer or a rum and ginger to soften the blows of stepping into the ring with Sr. Fidel and Avelino Lara.
The unlit cigar slipping out of the wrapper wafts pleasantly like newly fermented spring mulch recently spread over the garden. Fresh out of the bundle the cut was clean with few to no breaks in the skin and the cap came off whole. Lighting it takes a little patience and rotation to keep it square but once started it keeps a decent angle of incidence.
The opening taste is peppery and makes the lips tingle slightly the tongue is bathed in earthy woody tones ripening toward coffee. (No Cr

This is my second bundle of JR Alternative cigars and had such a pleasant experience with the last batch that I was excited to light one of these up right away. I was not disappointed.
Compared to a Cuban Cohiba it has an excellent well rounded flavor with little to no spice/pepper. It's rated as a medium to full... but I'd say its more full flavored which sets it apart from cubans....albeit, I like a strong rubusto sized stick for when I'm home so it's perfect. I usually reserve the longer medium body cigars for when I'm at a lounge and socializing.
If you're an ash-master (playing chicken with the ash), this is a good one. I was talking around outside and the ash burned almost to the label. It didn't fall off until I needed to remove the label to continue smoking.
Draw was uninhibited but not too lightly packed.
Construction was top notch, no defects and burned evenly.

So I have purchased the JR ALTERNATIVEs as my everyday cigars because of the price and quality. This is a medium cigar w full flavor. Earthy, coffee, and little sweet. It's cubanesque w the same flavor
Starts out a little nutty but then the rich aftertaste makes it stand out more than a mild. It's not overpowering which y u can smoke this morning and lunch and has enuf kick to enjoy in the evening. The price point is perfect and I go to these over my top shelf. From what I've tried I like the SIGLO, then the robusto, then Montecristo #1, then WAVELL..I also tried the RP EDGE but that's not all day. Get these for all day, save the top shelf for once a night or special times

Has a sharp/strong aroma and taste that makes it good for a last cigar after you've smoked others because it cuts through. Draw is slightly tight. Construction and consistency are as good as you will find.

A nice little everyday smoke & you still get 20 in a bundle. Not 18 1510 where they tell you what a deal you getting for the price. It's a nice firm 50 ring cigar that will last you about 45 min..

the draw is generally very good some tighter than others but not too bad. doesnt vary that much as far as draw. construction almost always perfect. flavor wise is where i have issues. when I started buying these 6 years ago they were very good packed with flavor. quality in tobacco has gone down i seems and it is heavily evidenced in the flavor. prices seem to be going up while quality is going down. id rather pay more for higher quality in the flavor department. they are pretty consistent.

I bought these with no idea how good/bad they could be. I have now smoked half the bundle and I am impressed! A good draw nice ash and nice flavor. A great everyday smoke without the $$$$. My only negative is the cigar seems small (4.5 x 50) but smokes big. It would be outstanding as 5x56. Just wishing Santa.

So this cigar is not a game changer but it is a definitely a good go-to cigar. It has always been consistent from my experience. They are on the shorter size so you can sneak one in a tight window if you don't have hours to devote to a smoke. It's definitely worth giving a shot!

Great vale cigar. I commonly don't smoke value cigars I know this might offend some people but I often I just hold them and use them like any other cigar without lighting them. Usualy just around the house. But I say it's not a waste of a cigar they taste good and I enjoy them. These JRS don't bleed on my fingers and have good construction. I only buy the JR value brand.

(No Cr

Dropped the humidity from around 72% to about 68% to see if the draw would loosen up and it helped a little. The first third was leather, cedar and woody with a long finish. I decided to sip on some Russell’s Reserve and it really enhanced the flavors. Very impressed! After the first third it changed to toasty nuts, a little creamy and subtle leather/woodsy. The flavor was much better after almost 3 weeks in the humidor. I think I’ll start pairing this with Bourbon. The burn is amazing! Flavors are much better!
