A Cigar Made to Mark 150 Years
Founded in Cuba in 1875 and named after the Shakespearean classic, Romeo y Julieta is one of the most recognized names in the world, with a history that spans empires, revolutions, and generations. By the early 1900s, it had built a global following, earning spots in the humidor of aristocrats, diplomats, and cigar lovers worldwide, including none other than Winston Churchill, whose name eventually inspired one of the brand’s most iconic vitolas. After the Cuban Revolution, production split between Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Today, Romeo y Julieta cigars for the U.S market are made at Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic.
A Collaboration of the Industry’s Most Trusted Names
To make the 150th anniversary something special, Altadis teamed up with some of the biggest names in the cigar world. The cigar starts with a dark and flavorful Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper grown by AJ Fernandez. Along with the smooth wrapper is a San Andres binder from the Turrent family in Mexico which brings more structure and depth. Inside, the long filler comes from more trusted names. The Honduran and Peruvian tobaccos are sourced from the Plasencias with the Dominican leaf grown by the revered Jose Mendez & Co.
150 Years of Craft Captured in Every Draw
The flavor opens with a noticeable dose of black coffee and cedar backed by a warmth of cinnamon and fruit. As it burns, expect a richer mix of dark chocolate and a toasty undertone. A hint of pepper comes through adding structure but never dominating the experience. The draw is smooth, the burn line stays sharp, and the flavors stay consistent throughout the experience.
Three Box-Pressed Cigars Crafted to Celebrate the Anniversary
The Romeo y Julieta 150th Anniversary line comes rolled in three different sizes, each offering a different expression for you to try. The Prologue, a 5x50 Robusto, hits quickly making it ideal for shorter sessions. The Balconet, a 6x54 Toro, gives the core more time to shift and settle showing off its balance and depth. The Crescendo, a 50x7 Churchill, is a gorgeous brute giving each phase of the cigar more room to develop. All three sizes come in a commemorative box carrying 15 cigars. Whether you’re a long-time fan or trying out Romeo y Julieta for the first time, this cigar earns its place in the brand’s history. Order your box at JR Cigars.
