Gran Corona Wouldn't buy these. The ones I received were moldy. I think these have sat around a bit too long. Just rating everything a 3 because the review isn't about the cigars themselves, but about the condition of the cigars just being old and not really sellable anymore. 1 5 1

Gran Corona I previously left a very positive review of these Por Larrañaga Gran Coronas, and I stand by every word about the cigars themselves. They're smooth, balanced, flavorful, and an excellent value. Because of their scarcity and because I enjoyed them, I purchased a new electric humidor, seasoned it, and stocked up! But I've since learned something that leaves a bad taste in my mouth...and it isn't the tobacco. JR's product description begins, "Introducing the NEW Por Larranaga handmade premium cigars. " What it doesn't mention is that Altadis reintroduced this blend in **2016**, and the line was subsequently discontinued. These appear to be remaining inventory from a cigar that hasn't been in regular production for years. There's absolutely nothing wrong with selling discontinued cigars. Properly stored, aged cigars can be wonderful. But why not tell customers what they're actually buying? Adding to my disappointment, the five-packs I recently ordered arrived as individual cigars in plastic baggies, each containing a dried-out 69% Boveda pack. That doesn't exactly inspire confidence in how the inventory has been handled. To be fair, the cigars I've smoked so far have been good, and the price was certainly right. I'm not suggesting otherwise. But there's a considerable difference between offering customers a terrific deal on discontinued inventory and continuing to market it as something NEW. What bothers me most is that I returned to JR because I trusted the information presented about these cigars. That confidence played a significant role in my decision to make JR my go-to retailer. Unfortunately, this experience has changed that. I still love the cigars, but I no longer see a compelling reason to make JR my exclusive source for cigars. **Customer loyalty is earned through trust, not just attractive prices. ** I haven't changed my opinion of the cigar. I've changed my opinion of how it was represented and delivered. 3 5 1
Gran Corona I'll be honest. I spent better than thirty years looking for these. Not constantly, mind you, but whenever I'd walk into a good shop, I'd ask. "You got any Por Larrinaga?" Mostly I got blank stares. The brand had been discontinued, disappeared, gone. I'd smoked them back in the 80s and 90s, and they stuck with me. There's a cigar that does that sometimes. You move on, smoke other things, but somewhere in the back of your mind there's one that got away. Then I heard Altadis had brought them back. I wasn't sure what to expect. Sometimes a brand comes back and it's not the same thing at all. New ownership, new blend, new everything. But I figured it was worth finding out. I ordered a box. Then two more. Now here I am a month later planning to buy a larger humidor just to stock up, because I'm half convinced that if I don't, they'll disappear again. The short version: these are damn close to what I remember. Not identical, but close enough that the years of hunting feel worth it. The long version takes a little more explaining. These aren't the exact cigars I smoked forty years ago. The blend is new - Altadis created a modern version using an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper with Dominican fillers and binder. So right away, I knew not to expect a perfect match to memory. Memory's funny that way. It rounds things out, makes them a little better than they probably were. But here's what got my attention: these are seriously enjoyable. Smooth, balanced, with a nice draw and a solid construction. You can taste the complexity without it being overwhelming. What I'm missing is some of the vanilla and spice that I remember from the original blend. That's real. It's there in my memory clear as day. Whether my memory's embellishing that after thirty years or whether the modern blend really is more restrained, I honestly couldn't tell you. What I do know is what's in my hand right now tastes excellent, and it's close enough to what I loved that I'm not spending time wishing for something else. 5 5 1

Gran Corona These smokes are a tasty treat. Very well made with an even burn. A couple of cigars were a bit tight, but they opened up easily using the proper tool. 5 5 1
