Fifty Cigars & Accessories to Celebrate 50 Years of JR Cigars
Fifty years ago, JR Cigars started out as a small brick-and-mortar shop in New York City, but over that time JR has changed drastically. From that single shop in the city grew a wide-reaching mail-order catalog business, having acquired customers from all over the country.
In the early days of the internet, JR Cigars saw the potential for expanding the catalog to an online store, and the rest is history.
JR Cigars now stands as one of the best and largest online retailers in the premium cigar industry and hosts a massive portfolio of some of the most popular cigars on the market! We also host a variety of exclusive blends that you can find nowhere else, with several coming out this year to join in our 50th celebration.
To celebrate 50 years of our ever-growing business and portfolio, we figured we would take you on a tour of our immense catalog of top-shelf cigars and accessories! But first, you might be finding yourself asking, why are cigars good for a celebration? My friend, I am glad you asked.
Why celebrate with cigars?
Cigars are as synonymous with celebration as champagne. A good cigar is a work of art, crafted by hand by highly talented farmers and artisans to provide one with an experience that exudes luxury. Much like toasting a glass of champagne, sparking up a stogie with a close group in celebration is a reward for a milestone; an indulgence to be shared with all those special and closest.
Smoking a cigar is also an experience, and an experience is fleeting. What better way to capture a moment of celebration than with a delicious top-quality smoke, to punctuate a momentous occasion. I can think of very few!
Celebrate with us, as we share with you a list (in no particular order than loosely alphabetical) of some of the best cigars and accessories for celebration!
This list will include not only good celebration cigars and cigars blended especially for JR’s 50th celebration, but also smokes that are good for any regular day as well because sometimes even the most underwhelming of occasions could be worth celebrating.
Unlike some of our other extensive lists naming our top 25 of the year, this list is not necessarily what we think is the best, but what you, our loyal customers, find as some of your favorites and most popular, and to serve as a tour through our massive catalog.
Best celebration cigars and accessories to celebrate JR Cigars
I am pleased to present this list of smokes that are both highly regarded and readily available right here at JR Cigars. Without further ado, let us break into this explorative list of some of the best and most popular brands in our catalog!
Alec & Bradley Kintsugi
Owner Alan Rubin named his cigar company after his sons. Alec and Bradley, both now grown up, are starting to make blends of their own. The third blend by Alec and Bradley, Kintsugi is a truly special smoke. These gems use top-quality Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos to provide a rich smoke with delicious notes of earth, leather, cinnamon, and a hint of spice and coffee.
Named for the Japanese art of kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with precious metals like gold and silver, Alec and Bradley show that what is old can be made new and more beautiful than before.
Following Blind Faith and Gatekeeper, Alec & Bradley Kintsugi shows off the continuing development of Alec and Bradley’s blending skills, and after just one puff you can tell these kids have a bright future.
Aging Room JR 50th Anniversary
Aging Room is a top-rated brand that won cigar of the year from Cigar Aficionado in 2018 with the Quattro Nicaragua. To celebrate JR’s 50th, they released a special blend just for us, the Aging Room JR 50th Anniversary Maestro.
These limited-edition treats take the prized Nicaraguan long-filler and binder tobaccos found on the Quattro Nicaragua and pair them with a Sumatra wrapper similar to the original Aging Room Quattro.
A refined medium-bodied smoke loaded with rich earth, zesty sweet spice, leather, coffee, and cedar notes will grace the palate with each luxurious puff.
Arturo Fuente Don Carlos
If you like Dominican cigars as they are today, you owe a lot of thanks to the Arturo Fuente brand. The Fuente family revolutionized the image of the Dominican Republic in the premium cigar industry with their release of the Fuente Fuente Opus X, a Dominican puro that took the world by storm during the cigar boom of the 1990s.
Since that time, Arturo Fuente has released several blends, but among their most popular and lauded is the Arturo Fuente Don Carlos.
Blended to pay homage to Fuente family patriarch Carlos Fuente Sr, Dominican long-fillers and a dark Cameroon binder make for a complex tapestry of nuts, cocoa, spice, cedar, and a rich tobacco sweetness that has made these gems a crowd favorite!
Black Label Trading Co. Deliverance Nocturne
Founded just eight years ago in 2013, the boutique Black Label Trading Company brand has released countless blends that are each as impressive as the last and have since solidified themselves as a name to keep an eye on.
Perhaps their most beloved of brands is the Deliverance Nocturne, a line of uniquely shaped cigars that are sure to impress with their top-notch artisanship and construction.
Like a bat to the face, these baseball-bat-shaped sticks are a model marriage of Nicaraguan Habano and Pennsylvania Broadleaf tobaccos, playing off each other to pummel the palate with a medium-full bodied bevy of peppery spice, dark chocolate, earth, and leather.
Make sure to not sleep on the rest of the BLTC lineup, this husband/wife pair of owners have a ton of different blending ideas that are sure to impress!
Inspired by both the iconic parts of a muscle car and the unique shape of these sticks, CAO Flathead cigars are certain to get your engine running! With a flat cap and an expert box-press, these rectangular sticks are a staple in humidors of aficionados all over the country.
While I typically like a V-cut for my sticks, it seems the only way to respect the craftsmanship of these top-quality smokes is to use a punch. This was great because the punch concentrated the already bold notes of chocolate, black pepper, and espresso onto my palate, yet still made way for a smooth, creamy finish that kept me cruising.
Caldwell Eastern Standard
One of the blends that helped make Caldwell Cigars famous nearly overnight, the Caldwell Eastern Standard is a Connecticut blend unlike any other. Released in 2014 with an initially secret blend, the Eastern Standard took the world by storm and has since *ahem* set the standard for Connecticut-style blends.
Now published on Caldwell’s website, the Eastern Standard blend consists of vintage Dominican Criollo ’98, Corojo ’99, and Nicaraguan Habano long-fillers deftly nestled inside a Dominican Habano binder and a rare Connecticut Shade x Brazilian Mata Fina hybrid wrapper leaf.
Certainly “not your daddy’s Connecticut”, these golden treats will grace the palate with a uniquely complex tapestry of cocoa, leather, coffee, and cream, but there is plenty of pepper and spice along with a dash of citrus zest in the profile that makes these gems stand out among the rest.
Camacho Triple Maduro
If you are a fan of Maduro tobaccos, then the Camacho Triple Maduro is a must-try! With the wrapper, binder, and long-fillers all extensively aged and fermented, these gems are 100% Maduro through and through.

A full-bodied and mouthwateringly good blast of spice, black pepper, citrus, and hazelnut will tantalize the palate, and the lingering rich sweetness will leave a lasting impression, enticing you to spark up another.
This is a worthy addition to the daily rotation of a seasoned connoisseur and is one of the best smokes in Espinosa’s vast portfolio.

Under the Hoyo de Monterrey umbrella at the famous General Cigar Company, Excalibur is one of the most popular mellow-medium cigars on the market.
In celebration of their 40 successful years, the release of Excalibur Black exhibits the next chapter of this brand’s portfolio.
A departure from their historically mellow flavors, these gems provide a medium-full bodied smoke with rich notes of pepper, leather, earth, and cocoa, a delight for smokers who like things on the bolder side.

H. Upmann 1844 Anejo
A bolder offering compared to the historic brand’s typically mellow offerings, H. Upmann 1844 Anejo is also the first non-Cuban H. Upmann offering to utilize tobaccos that have been extensively aged for over five years.
A multination blend of Dominican, Honduran and Nicaraguan long-fillers rests easy under a Pennsylvania Broadleaf binder and a top-shelf Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
Once lit, a bold yet refined medium-full-bodied smoke will wash over the palate, producing rich notes of earth, cocoa, cinnamon, leather, and a satisfying tobacco sweetness that balanced the other flavors.
Anejo is Spanish for ‘old’ or ‘mature’, and you can taste the top-quality flavor that aging provides in every puff. The 1844 Anejo is truly a modern twist from a classic brand!
Henry Clay War Hawk
The famous statesman Henry Clay earned the nickname of ‘War Hawk’ for his views on military power and the interests of the country and is an apt name for Henry Clay War Hawk cigars.
These rustic smokes depart from Henry Clay’s usual style of using a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper in favor of an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf, moving the Broadleaf to the binder instead. Underneath is a core of perfectly aged Honduran long-filler tobaccos.
Be transported back to the days when Henry Clay was Speaker of the House with an old-fashioned medium-bodied smoke brimming with notes of toasted almonds, earth, cocoa, sweet tobacco, and pepper on the finish that will liven the palate.
Henry Clay War Hawk is a timeless smoke that will please aficionados who like both the traditional and the modern.
Herrera Esteli Norteno
A cigar line so special to master blender Willy Herrera that it was announced before the release of the first Herrera Esteli. Herrera Esteli Norteno cigars get their name from the colloquial nickname of folks who live in the northern part of Nicaragua, especially around Esteli.
These Maduro smokes have been winning the hearts of both staunch and casual Drew Estate fans alike since the top-rated line’s introduction in 2014.
Blended with aged Nicaraguan long-fillers, a Honduran binder, and a San Andres Mexican Maduro wrapper leaf, these full-bodied treats will provide a rich tapestry of pepper, chocolate, roasted nuts, earth, coffee, and a maple-like sweetness that adds to the complexity.

Crafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernadez in Esteli, Nicaragua with AJ’s signature fermentation, aging, and blending processes, these gems feature a top-quality Ecuadorian Sumatra Oscuro wrapper over a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a core of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Dominican Habano Ligero long-fillers.

Boasting the same blend found on the Lunatic Habano, an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over aged Nicaraguan Aganorsa long filler and binder tobaccos, these gems are a departure from the regular line with a long and thin 6×46 vitola, whereas the rest of the Lunatic line features big-ring vitolas.
Effectively capturing the flavors found in Cuban tobaccos from Vuelta Abajo and Pinar del Rio, you will enjoy a bold medium-full bodied smoke brimming with earth, pepper, cinnamon, sweet spice, and dark roasted coffee notes with each deliciously good puff.

La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero
You may see the term ‘ligero’ bounced around, but this is no special nation or strain varietal. Ligero is the leaf found on the uppermost part of the tobacco plant, receiving the most sunlight and producing the most chlorophyll and nicotine, making for a sweet and powerful smoke. La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero doubles up on the amount of Ligero used to provide the most powerful smokes on the market.
A display of raw strength, the LFD Double Ligero uses long filler and binder tobaccos from the Dominican Republic that are surrounded by a top-shelf Ecuadorian Sumatra in either EMS or Maduro shades, producing a full-bodied bevy of earth, wood, coffee, sweet spice, and a touch of nutty creaminess from the Dominican fillers.

Leaf By Oscar
It is almost a given that when you first open a box of premium cigars and look at them, they will be individually protected in cellophane sleeves.
Some manufacturers may opt for tissue paper or tubes. But have you ever seen one enveloped in a tobacco leaf? Well, that is exactly what you will find on Leaf by Oscar Cigars. They may seem ugly, but under each protective leaf is a beautiful top-notch cigar.
These gems are all packed to the brim with Honduran tobaccos for the long-fillers and binder and are coated in one of four top-quality wrappers: either a Honduran Connecticut, a Nicaraguan Jalapa Maduro, an Ecuadorian Sumatra, or a Honduran Corojo, and each stick is protected by another leaf that is the same as its respective wrapper in lieu of a cellophane sleeve.
In keeping with the leaf theming, each bundle is packaged not in paper or plastic, but in yet another tobacco leaf, adding to their rustic appeal.
Ranging from mellow-medium for the Connecticut and Corojo and medium-full for the Sumatra and Maduro, there is certain to be a Leaf by Oscar offering to suit your palate.
Macanudo Inspirado Red
When Macanudo’s 50th anniversary rolled around in 2018, the company decided to kick it off with Macanudo Inspirado Red, a powerful Nicaraguan-centric smoke that displays this famous company’s ability to change with the times as Nicaraguan tobaccos continue to grow in popularity.
The Inspirado Red, unlike others in the Inspirado Series, is made at the STG Esteli cigar factory with an Ecuadorian Habano Ligero wrapper leaf over a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder and extensively aged Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers, featuring twelve-year aged Nicaraguan Ometepe long-fillers.
Expect a bold full-bodied smoke loaded with tons of pepper along with notes of cinnamon, spice, cocoa, cedar, and a creamy smoothness from the aging. If this is what 50 years of Macanudo has led to, then the next 50 must be full of some top-notch smokes!
Montecristo White Series
Back in the day, when torcedors were hard at work rolling cigars, lectors would read books to them, with one of the most popular being The Count of Montecristo among the rollers.
In 1935, Alonso Menendez and Pepe Garcia created the Montecristo brand, and the brand has since enjoyed being one of the most popular Cuban Heritage brands in the world.
To capture the old-school Cuban flavor that made the brand a household name, the brand released the Montecristo White Series which swiftly grew to be one of our most popular and best-selling offerings. Blended with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and the best Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers available, these medium-bodied treats are a dream to smoke.
Expect a perfectly-balanced smoke, the White Series provides a rich, complex, and well-rounded smoke with notes of cocoa, sweet cream, nuts, earth, cedar, and a touch of spice that keeps the palate entertained. These gems are truly the every-man cigar; must be why they are in the humidors of aficionados all over the world!
My Father Flor de Las Antillas
If you are a more seasoned aficionado, chances are you have at least heard of My Father cigars. Headed by the Garcia family, My Father is steeped in the Cuban tradition. Prior to founding the company, family patriarch Jose “Pepin” Garcia was a renowned cigar roller in Cuba but moved to the United States in search of greener pastures.
The company’s first big hit was working with Pete Johnson of Tatuaje, rolling cigars for him from My Father’s small factory in Florida.
But what really solidified My Father’s standing as an industry force to be reckoned with was the release of Flor de Las Antillas in 2012, earning the rank of best cigar of the year from Cigar Aficionado.
Given Cuba’s affectionate nickname of ‘Flower of the Antilles’, these smokes honor the natural beauty and rich, flavorful tobaccos that Cuba is famous for.
Crafted entirely with vintage Cuban-seed tobaccos covered in a Nicaraguan Sungrown wrapper leaf that received copious amounts of sunlight.
The blend provides an extravagant medium-full bodied bouquet of nutmeg, cocoa, leather, white pepper, and of course My Father’s signature spice. Although the flavors produced by Flor de Las Antillas are some of the best around, it is the price point that is truly impressive.

The first blend done with his dad Ismael, who worked with the Plasencia family for 17 years prior, and a nod to the discovery of the new world by Colombus in 1492, these gems are blended with Nicaraguan long-fillers and binder leaf grown in the four main growing regions of Nicaragua, coated by a dark as night Nicaraguan Oscuro wrapper.
Full-bodied notes of wood, leather, white pepper, espresso, and a smooth caramel sweetness will flood the palate with each puff, and AJ’s signature top-notch construction makes this girthy box-pressed a dream to smoke!

Eventually settling farms in several Central American countries, Oliva is now one of the largest producers of tobacco in the world, with a particular focus on Nicaraguan tobaccos.

Room 101 Farce
East meets West and produces intensely good flavors with Matt Booth’s popular Room 101 brand, and that is certainly no farce!
Room 101 was founded in 2009 and hit the ground running with collaborations with the famous Caldwell company, but Matt Booth’s first solo release, the Room 101 Farce, solidified the brand as a boutique company that has a bright future.
These top-shelf boutique gems are blended with a multinational blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Pennsylvanian long-fillers, an Indonesian binder, and a rich Ecuadorian Habano wrapper leaf.
These medium-full-bodied treats will coat the palate in bold notes of white pepper, spice, sweet cocoa, cashews, and a creamy finish that lingers and lasts. While they are named ‘Farce’, these are some seriously good smokes.
Southern Draw Desert Rose
Southern Draw is a brand steeped in Southern tradition and formed by former members of the military who have a love for cigars.
Produced at the famous Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua, Southern Draw Desert Rose cigars are a line extension of Southern Draw’s Rose of Sharon line. Unlike most line extensions that just change the wrapper, this line reinvents the entire blend to provide a bolder take.
Desert Rose features a core of vintage Honduran Corojo ’99 and Dominican Piloto Cubano long-fillers bunched inside a hearty Nicaraguan Habano binder and seamlessly surrounded by a golden-brown Claro wrapper grown on the cloud-covered mountains of Ecuador.
These treats produce a savory medium-bodied smoke with balanced and complex notes of spice, cocoa, cedar, cream, and a rich tobacco sweetness throughout that leaves the palate wanting more.
Along with AJ Fernandez’s top-notch construction, these small-batch sticks are like a luxurious dream to smoke and deserving of a spot in any serious aficionado’s humidor.
Tatuaje Cigars were introduced to the world in 2003 by brand owner Pete Johnson and has since taken the world by storm with several top-rated and highly limited offerings like the Monsters Collection.
Tatuaje Tattoo cigars started out in 2011 as a limited edition run, but they made their way back to the market full-time in 2014 much to the delight of premium cigar connoisseurs everywhere.
Under a dark and rich Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, the Tattoo features a core of vintage Nicaraguan long-filler and binder tobaccos that are procured from the best farms in the country.
They will provide you with a complex and balanced medium-bodied smoke that is brimming with notes of spice, pepper, cocoa, sweet cream, and cedar.
The Tatuaje Tattoo is also one of the more affordable offerings from Tatuaje, at least per cigar, so if you are not yet acquainted with Tatuaje’s top-shelf portfolio the Tattoo is a great place to start!
Trinidad Espiritu Series 2
The follow-up to the popular Espiritu, the Trinidad Espiritu Series 2 is another collaboration between AJ Fernandez and Rafael Nodal to bring you on a journey to the heart of Brazil.
With a focus on Brazilian tobaccos in the blend along with colorfully vibrant boxes and bands, these bold and flavorful gems will have you feeling like you are at Carnival!
Starting with a core of aged Brazilian and Nicaraguan long-fillers packed inside a hearty Nicaraguan binder, the finishing touch on the Espiritu Series 2 is a top-shelf, dark as night Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper leaf.
The blend produces a rich medium-full-bodied medley of black pepper, chocolate, dark roasted coffee, cinnamon, and earth notes that coat the palate.
The second of a planned three-part series with different countries of focus, with the original Espiritu celebrating Nicaragua, the Espiritu Series 2 is a tour of Brazil that you will not soon forget!
After the release of the famous Liga Privada, Drew Estate had to ask their torcedors to stop smoking them so much so that they could be sold to us eager masses.
In response to this request, the rollers came up with a similar blend of more widely available tobaccos. And thus, the Undercrown was born, under the ‘crown’ of the Liga Privada and pleasing seasoned aficionados for over ten years!
The blend consists of a top-shelf San Andres Negro wrapper over Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan Cuban-seed long-fillers with a Connecticut Habano binder in between.
Your senses will be invigorated by a bold and rich medium-full bodied smoke that effortlessly delivers complex notes of espresso, almond, spice, dark chocolate, black pepper, and an intriguing creaminess that will wash over the palate.
If you are having trouble finding some Liga Privadas or your budget is a little tight, Undercrown has got you covered! These treats provide comparable flavor to those Ligas and are also available at much more affordable prices, perfect for aficionados on a budget.
A smoke that was so popular in Europe that they just had to come stateside, VegaFina 1998 cigars are named after the year that the VegaFina brand was first introduced.
Boasting a modest and affordable price tag, VegaFina 1998 is a top-notch smoke made with tobaccos from all over the world that have also been extensively aged for over three years prior to rolling.
These treats feature long-filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Columbia, and Nicaragua that are followed by an Indonesian Java binder and completed with a top-quality Ecuadorian Habano wrapper.
Expect a savory middle-of-the-road medium-bodied smoke that will enchant the palate with a tapestry of leather, dark roasted coffee, nuts, spices, and rich molasses sweetness.
VegaFina 1998 is perfect for any manner of smoker no matter their palate preferences, experience level, or budgetary needs. These gems have only been on the U.S. scene for a few months, so get in on these delicious treats from the get-go before they explode in popularity!
Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988
To close out the cigar section of this expansive list of cigars and accessories, it is only fitting that it be another celebration cigar.
To celebrate his 30th birthday back in 2018, brand owner Kyle Gellis released the Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988 after years of meticulous planning and development. Gellis made sure that the aging and blend for the cigars were just right before they could bear the year he was born.
A Nicaraguan puro that is handcrafted at the famous TABSA factory with all the leaf procured from Aganorsa farms, Gran Reserva 1988 is blended with Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98 long-fillers packed within a Nicaraguan binder and seamlessly dressed in a top-shelf Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 wrapper that has a clay-red hue.
Indulge in a rich and complex medium-bodied smoke that presents a tapestry of cinnamon, creamy leather, molasses, coffee, and hints of dried fruit notes among a consistent tobacco sweetness that balances the flavors.
While these smokes were made to celebrate Kyle Gellis’ birthday, the Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988 is fitting for any celebration or occasion!

However, I am sure you have accidentally cracked the cap of your stogie a couple of times from your cutter. Well, kiss those cracked caps goodbye with the Xikar VX2 V-Cut Silver cigar cutter.
Made with an ultra-sharp inverted blade and a spring-loaded release button so one-handed operation is a breeze, this V-cutter is a cut above the rest because the blade moves inward, rather than outward, as you make your effortless cut into your favorite stick.

JR Glass Top Humidor w/ Hygrometer
Now that you have everything you need to enjoy your favorite cigars, you are going to need somewhere to store them properly in the meantime.
The best way to maintain your cigars at 69% relative humidity is to store them in a humidor, and a great introduction to humidors would be a JR Glass Top Wood Humidor With Hygrometer.
These affordable humidors are made with dried and aged Spanish cedar, the ideal storage for a premium cigar, and features a glass top emblazoned with the JR logo so you can look upon your cigars with adoration.
The analog hygrometer also gives you a reading on the humidity levels within the humidor so you can stay on top of it and keep it maintained at just the right level.
This is a great introductory humidor for getting your collection started, or a desk humidor for keeping your go-to smokes at hand and ready to go for whenever those cravings call!
