This week’s list is a special one dedicated to a very special co-worker of ours here at JR Cigar. Our Lead Videographer Greg Warger has been lending his expertise and giving you guys great content on our YouTube page since he started here back in 2018.

Over his time here, Greg has developed a palate for some delicious cigars that are made up of some of the best tobaccos from all over the world.

We decided to show Greg some love for his birthday, which is only a few days away. For this week’s sampler, we asked Greg to help us out. We showcase some of his favorite cigars he’s smoked since starting in the industry.

From the very first puff Greg took of the Alec & Bradley Kintsugi, he deemed it one of the best cigars he ever smoked. Almost every cigar from Alec and Bradley Rubin is a banger, but the Kintsugi sits atop that list of their best cigars ever.

“Kintsugi” obtains its name from the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold-covered lacquer. Released at the height of the pandemic, both Rubin brothers thought the name of this smoke was a great analogy of what the cigar industry, as well as the rest of the world, was going through.

Manufactured at the company’s prestigious Raices Cubanas Factory in Honduras, the Kintsugi is cloaked in a Honduran Trojes wrapper, all while being bound and filled with aged tobaccos from Honduras and Nicaragua. Landing on the fourth spot of Greg’s Top 5 Birthday Cigars of 2021, comes the Four Kicks Maduro from Crowned Heads. When Greg started out at JR’s in March of 2018, his knowledge of cigars wasn’t as extensive as it is today. However, when he first smoked the Four Kicks Maduro, he knew this wasn’t any ordinary cigar. From there on out he made this cigar his “everyday” smoke.

Being one of the very first collaborations between Crowned Heads founder Jon Huber and E.P. Carrillo, the Four Kicks Maduro has a dark and oily Connecticut Habano wrapper that glistens so brightly. Tobaccos hailing from Nicaragua make up this medium to full-bodied beauty.

The last gem to land on Greg’s Top 5 Birthday Cigars of 2021 is the Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988. This smoke is a throwback for Greg, being that it was only his third boutique cigar he ever had once started out in the industry.

Made by Aganorsa for Kyle Gellis, the Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988 made its glorious debut in 2017 with its only size available, a 5.25 x 50 Robusto. Another interesting tidbit of information was that this cigar line honors the year owner Kyle Gellis was born.

This Nicaraguan puro utilizes stunning vintage Corojo ’99 tobaccos to make up the wrapper, giving the Warped Serie Gran Reserva 1988 that full-bodied profile we all know and love.

The Crowned Heads Reserve XVIII Full Court Press is limited edition cigars that were crafted to honor the brands loyal following, who are referred to as the “Court”. The Limited-Edition Full Court Press was expertly handcrafted at Ernesto Perez Carrillo’s prestigious factory in the Dominican Republic.

When it comes to the Limited-Edition Full Court Press, this dark and oily smoke is cloaked in a Mexican San Andres wrapper, with Nicaraguan Fillers, and an Ecuadorian binder. Rolled in the popular 5.88 x 52 size, this medium to full-bodied cigar has savory flavor notes of chocolate, wood, toast, and cedar. Greg describes the Full Court Press as a “delicious chocolate bar” that he can enjoy any time of the day.

Having this limited-edition cigar released in 2002, then disappeared until 2017, the Illusione OneOff cigar was created by master blender Dion Gioliti. When Gioliti decided to bring back these premium handmade smokes, he wanted to stay true to the original iteration by bringing back the same flavor and packaging.

Although being a medium-bodied smoke, the Illusione OneOff Super Robusto packs a lot of flavor and intensity all in one. This Nicaraguan Puro has tasty flavor notes of sweet cedar, white pepper, and toasted almonds. From the great mind of Steve Saka of Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust comes Todos Las Dias. The translation for Todos Las Dias is “All the Days”, which follows the trend of all Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust cigars having meanings behind all of their smokes. This took the cigar world by storm when it was released at the 2017 IPCPR Trade Show. Saka stated that “This cigar is for the hardworking person, who loves cigars just as much as I do”.

Todos Las Dias in the Thick Lonsdale size is a full-bodied Nicaraguan Puro cigar that comes in a 6 x 46 size that’s extremely delicious. This special treat for a seasoned smoker has a plethora of delicious flavor notes. Some notes you’ll experience while smoking the Todos Las Dias are pepper, earth, espresso, wood, with a sweet caramel finish. The Todos Las Dias is one of Greg’s favorites he enjoys smoking any chance he gets.

The Ashton Aged Maduro No. 50 is a handcrafted cigar that hails from the famous Chateau de la Fuente in the Dominican Republic. The Ashton Aged Maduro is an instant classic due to the reputation Arturo Fuente name has. Ashton Cigar founder Robert Levin aged the tobaccos for so long, that the Aged Maduro is one of these cigars that is near perfect.

The No. 50 Ashton Aged Maduro is cloaked in a dark, rich Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, with binder and filler tobaccos from the Dominican Republic. This Medium-Bodied smoke comes in a 7 x 48 Churchill size that has delicious flavors flowing through the entire smoke. The flavor comes from natural fermentation that has a combination of natural sweetness as well as subtle undertones of nuts that captivate the palate.

Created to honor former prime minister of England, the Davidoff Winston Churchill cigars are regarded by many as one of the greatest premium cigars to have ever been created. Much like Winston Churchill himself, the Davidoff Winston Churchill is unique, bold, and filled to the brim with extraordinary tobaccos from all over North and South America.

With an Ecuador Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan Fillers, and a binder from Mexico, the Davidoff Winston Churchill Toro is a medium to full-bodied smoke that deserves a place in every aficionado’s humidor. Your palate will experience a cacophony of flavor notes such as almonds, sweet cream, and caramel on the back end of the smoke. Greg thinks the perfect time to have a Davidoff Winston Churchill is right after some birthday cake, with a scotch on the rocks!
