Partagas Cortado Cigar Review

February 11, 2022

The Partagas brand is one of many heritage brands to produce its well-known Cuban cigars with many other region tobaccos.  Many of Partagas’ cigars are medium to full-bodied and carry rich flavors.

The Partagas Cortado expands the brand’s portfolio by adding a medium-bodied blend that is absolutely stellar in taste and construction. Rolling out of the STG Estelí factory in Nicaragua, the Partagas Cortado is a creamy delight with its light brown Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper and multi-blended fillers of tobaccos from Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua.

As a newcomer to cigar smoking, I was excited to try this stick. Like many people, I love sweets, so when I’m introduced to a cigar that looks as sweet as this one does, I can’t wait to light it up.

Cold Draw

The cigar itself is not that oily to the touch and gives off a light aroma of sweet hay and wood. After cutting the cap and taking a few puffs, the fragrant aromas of this bright stick become more present along with a subtle note of spice that pierced through so gently.

This all happens while I prepare myself to take a moment of meditation on my back porch to enjoy a hot caramel latte and watch the sunrise. Nothing is more relaxing to get the day started than a good, sweet cigar to go with my coffee. I’m excited to toast and spark this beauty up.

Flavor Profile of the First Third

Lit with a Xikar soft flame, the Partagas Cortado evenly lit and almost looked like it was caramelizing around the edges. Before I could take a puff, I was impressed with enveloped I was with the smoke around me that whispered sweet smells of cream, maple, and yeast that contrasted the subtle taste of spice on my first pull.

It was more than perfect to start my day and enjoy my latte. Watching the sunrise and examining the beautiful artwork of the bold red, gold, and white band that displayed two geometric patterned shields, headed with crowns. I was feeling like the king of my castle.

Flavor Profile of the Second Third

Halfway through the cigar, all the spice had gone, and I started to get notes that were more neutral and earthy. Almost coconut but not so pronounced. The sweetness was still underlying even after the first ash had fallen off. The construction of this cigar is perfect to say the least.

The Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper still had that beautiful, caramelized look on the edges of the cherry. The smoke had become less thick, but the flavors were still there.

Flavor Profile of the Final Third

As I finished my latte, I was ready to un-band the stick.  All the flavor notes had balanced out overall and became a bit spicier. I would describe it as chocolate with chili peppers in it. The cigar still pulled well and it never lost the creaminess that it started off with. I was truly impressed with this medium-light smoke.

Final Thoughts

For my final thoughts, I was truly impressed with what Partagas has made. Not normal for what they are known for, this light cigar hits the spot with its silky-smooth flavors and great build.

Sold 20 to a box, the Partagas Cortado is around $115 to $122 per box depending on the size. For this quality and count, you’re really getting a great deal on a cigar that can be enjoyed all year round, especially if you have a sweet tooth like myself and enjoy a lighter smoke.
