Best After Dinner Drinks and Cigar Pairings

July 29, 2015

Fonseca 10 Year Old Aged Tawny Port and an Ashton Maduro No. 40– If you like sweet, than this pairing is a must.  The aged port is rich and sweet with a lot of fruit and vanilla undertones.  The Ashton Maduro is a dark, rich smoke.  Its broadleaf wrapper gives it a natural sweetness that will make your mouth water.  Forget dessert; just enjoy these two fine examples of sweet elegance.

Hennessey VSOP and a La Aroma de Cuba Churchill- Hennessey is the worlds best selling cognac, and for good reason.  The VSOP is aged up to 15 years in oak barrels.  Its smooth yet strong with nice wood and spice flavors.  The Aroma de Cuba is a fantastic medium to full bodied Nicaraguan with a broadleaf wrapper.  It has nice undertones of earth and spice with an excellent rich and smooth finish.

Grand Marnier and Warped Flor de Valle– It would be easy enough to match up the Grand Marnier with the cigar that bears its name.  However, that’s just too easy.  This liqueur boasts a flavorful citrus profile with a hint of a zest.  The Warped Flor de Valle is a medium to full bodied smoke, with great floral notes and a hint of an orange zest on the back end.

Black Russian and a Drew Estate Java- Although this is a cocktail, it’s a very popular and delicious after dinner treat.  A Black Russian is a cocktail that combines vodka and a rich dark coffee liqueur.  It’s rich, creamy and filled with notes of dark coffee and cocoa.  The Drew Estate Java is the only true match up.  Its flavor profile contains coffee, cocoa, and nuts.  This is a dark rich and sweet way to end your night.

Disaronno and H. Upmann Vintage Cameroon– This is quite the nutty pair.  Disaronno is a fantastic amaretto that boasts great notes of nuts, especially almonds.  The Cameroon wrapper on the Upmann Vintage boasts similar wood and nut undertones.  If you have a nut allergy but still like the taste, this is perfect for you!!
