Weekly Cigar Roundup: It’s a Foundation Week

October 28, 2019

On this week’s episode of Weekly Cigar Roundup, Nick went all week smoking Foundation Cigars.  Past Friday on our podcast we had Nick Melillo of Foundation Cigars, so to be ready for it Nick went full-court press on Foundation Cigars.

On Monday, Nick smoked the Menelik.  This cigar used to be an event only now turned full production.  It features a beautiful San Andres wrapper with Nicaraguan tobaccos for the binder and filler.  It only comes in one size and if you are a fan of box press this is a cigar you can’t pass up.

Nick’s Tuesday cigar is Foundation’s Charter Oak.  Wrapped in a creamy Connecticut Shade wrapper with aged Nicaraguan tobaccos in the filler and binder.  This is Nick Melillo’s most affordable offering averaging around $5-$6 a stick.

For the middle of the week, Nick went for a more strong offering with the Tabernacle.  Everyone was waiting for Foundation to blending a cigar with Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and this cigar did not disappoint.  Visually the cigar looks delicious.  Using a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, Mexican San Andres binder, and Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers.

On Thursday, Nick smoked the Charter Oak Maduro.  This is a big office favorite as the flavors and price you cannot beat.  Using a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with aged Nicaraguan fillers, this cigar has flavor notes of chocolate, leather, and spice.

After work on Friday, Nick smoked El Gueguense. This is Foundation’s first cigar ever produced.  This Nicaraguan puro received a 93 on Cigar Aficionado.

Nick’s cigar on Saturday he went with one of his favorite Foundation Cigars and that is the Wise Man Maduro.  This cigar ranked 3 in Cigar Aficionado’s top 25 in 2018.  This cigar has a stunning San Andres wrapper, Nicaragua Corojo 99 binder, and Nicaraguan fillers.  Flavor notes of chocolate, espresso and spice this cigar is not one to miss out on.

Nick Libretti describes this cigar at the same level as a Davidoff Cigar and that would be the Highclere Castle Edwardian.  This cigar is inspired by the actual Highclere Castle and Nick Melillo went to the basement of the castle to find out where they used to buy their cigars to get the closest profile to it.  Featuring a Connecticut shade wrapper, Brazilian binder and Nicaraguan fillers this cigar is creamy, nutty and smooth.

When you get a chance headover to JR Cigars and pick up one these fantastic Foundation cigars today.
