The Hoyo de Monterrey Certified Vintage 1999 Aristorcrat Figurado entered the market to much pomp and circumstance. So much so, that they were only sold to a single, full-price tobacco company – not JR. But now the tables have turned! Today, JR is the only company in the world with these vintage gems, and we couldn’t be happier to offer them to our customers at an affordable price. They’re a masterfully constructed mild treat with an unmistakable smoothness. Pick up a 10-count bundle online now.

Big Disappointment..

RichH on 06/18/15

Big disappointment. My wife picked these up for me as a gift. First one was plugged with the wrapper splitting immediately. Two thus far out of 6 I attempted to smoke were smokeable but not without peeling and splitting. 4 out of 6 so had to be tossed. 3 left for additional aging but doubt anything will improve. Waste..

Feel Deceived

JanieH on 06/18/15

Picked these up for my husband. Feel deceived as these were not smokeable. Plugged and cracking apart.

If you like this shape of cigar and want a real smooth nice easy cigar then this is for you!! I like to try all sorts of different cigars and just so happened to get this one from my dad. I would like to get some of these for my humidor

Needs some care to make good

BigMikee71 on 09/20/15

After settling a few days in my humidor I realized that these will need at least a month of rest with a Boveda nearby. The draw was good and the flavors very nice for a dry smoke, but I think I know why these hit the auction block. Would I buy more cheap? Heck yeah! I just know they need a little time in the locker.

No, you probably shouldn't,

briandg on 09/04/15

I can't say that they are worth the price, but I enjoyed the ones I have smoked. It's hard to get them going, and smoking was difficult. A perfecto or other shaped cigar is hard to construct, but these just didn't work. The smoke was flavorful, but splits in the wrapper made it difficult. it's too bad that these beautiful cigars are so badly constructed.

Wait for them to go on sale.

NRI1969 on 08/13/15

The Aristocrat is a pleasant medium bodied cigar with just a slight hint of mild spice. I was lucky enough to obtain a bundle of 10 at roughly half the price you see on this page. Four of the ten wrappers cracked or unraveled about one third into the cigar, despite having rested for well over a month after I received them. I cannot say whether this indicates a quality control failure at the factory of their origin in 1999, or humidity fluctuations in the years since then. A fifth stick proved to be altogether unsmokable owing to an extremely tight draw that could not be rectified with a poker. Dissection revealed a massive stem in the bunch. So this brought the success rate of these down to 50 percent. Now, at the sale price, the flavor was worth the frequent touchups the split wrappers required, and if you do smoke one of these, you should grin and bear it all the way through, because flavorwise the last third is where this cigar really pays off. But at the full price? Nope.

reasonably decent

thebaby981 on 07/08/15

I cut these cigars in half and don't experience burn issues with hardly any of them. The first half of this one is pretty good with lots of smoke and good flavor. its like having 2 small cigars one kinda fat and the other leaner. I solve the construction issues by simply cutting them into 2 cigars.

I love the vintage cigars from JR CIGARS they have such a variety and the flavors are so much better as time goes on. The perfect shape intensify the flavors on this one

Bad cigars-stay away

tbrown on 05/19/15

One of the worst cigars I ever tried, along with it's cousin, the 1999 Condessa Shaped. Bone dry, splitting, peeling wrappers, hard plugs in the filler causing uneven burning by up to an inch. Even after getting them well humidified, they are still horrible cigars-should have returned them and will next time! Consistency got 5 starts for being consistently awful.

Disappointed for a Hoyo

Hotrod on 06/10/15

It was difficult to draw; A lot of effort to get it to get a smooth smoke. It was impossible to get a nice ash at the tip. It also was cracking & splitting even after sitting in my humidor for over 90 days. Later, the shape became annoying as smoking was a challenge. Maybe I should have returned them.

Disappointed

Joncanon on 06/14/15

I was really looking forward to smoking these and I was very disappointed. First two we lit up you could not draw through. Even tried using a golf tee to open it up but had no luck.

Not bad at all

Arspainting on 08/13/15

I like the shape and size of the cigar. It's a good long burn. I would place it in the medium strength range. Flavor is consistent and not much change from start to finish. A stay in the humidor will definitely help them out.

a relaxing smoke shouldn't be this much work

smokecloud on 09/23/15

Bought 10 at auction. First one was not smokable. Second was a chore to get going. Cut both ends. Ran a long toothpick down the middle. Cut again. Pulled till my ears hurt. Cut again. Finally got a decent draw halfway through. Lot's of work. Third was same as first. Fourth smoked like a quality cigar should. All the wrappers cracked and fell off. Taste was good when smoking but a hell of alot of work.

great

One of my favorite sticks and an awesome vitola. The flavor just kept coming and it was a perfect pairing after a steak dinner.

Overall this cigar is average in my opinion. The size is odd and the draw wasn't as smooth as I like. Not worth the price , but a decent smoke.

cool shape, mellow smoke

Steveb on 07/06/15

Another great smoke from the late 90s. It was smokes like this that caused the cigar boom. Neat shape, tons of smoke, and mellow flavors. Enjoy!

Ok smoke

Bassnhockey on 06/20/15

Heavy heavy flavor but you fight to get the smoke in the beginning. Not relaxing until the half way point for me

Hoya cert

Dutanize@aol.com on 08/01/15

The Hoya de Monterey certified has a great flavor, the draw however is poor, very tightly rolled, also keep the band on or they unravel

Fun cigar

How fun is this? Pyramid shape from the classic Hoyo de Monterey. Classic flavors abounds in this extremely fun shape

Tough Draw

Finesse on 08/21/15

This cigar has good flavor, if you can get any smoke out of it! One of the tightest cigars I've ever smoked! 😬

Still a fan after all these years.

S8ntsfan on 09/02/15

I've enjoyed this cigar for many years now. I have yet to be disappointed. Fantastic flavors and complexity. This is the definition of a truly premium cigar.

Bad smoke

Gutsy on 09/08/15

Extremely disappointing for a Hoya. Almost unsmokeable because the draw was non existent. Very dry, wrappers cracked. Same as others reported. I found cutting them into two helped but I never got the delayed flavor results I'd expect from the full size.

Mixed review

AJ on 01/18/16

This cigar is made from very tasty tobacco. Mild to medium, great flavor, earthy with a bit of spice and good subtle notes. The problem is the draw. I don't know if the shape left it too packed in at the narrow tip but even after recutting and a lot of finger rolling that got it going better initially, it kept stiffening up. These were free as part of a deal with a sampler from one of my favorite brands, so I don't mind, but I wouldn't buy them.
