The difference between a Toro and Robusto isn’t that far off in terms of size. However, most cigar smokers have their go-to smokes as well as preferred sizes for different occasions. In a previous article where we discussed Robusto cigars, we determined that Robusto’s are anywhere between 4 ½ and 5 ½ in length, with a ring diameter of 48-50.

When it comes to the Toro, it’s roughly 6 inches long, with a ring diameter of 50 to 52. The reason Toro cigars are preferred by a lot of aficionados is that it is the perfect size to smoke. Not too short or too long, nor is it too fat or thin. Toro cigars are also great for telling a “story”.

If you have a long and thin cigar, such as a Lonsdale, the wrapper will take over the blend and be more flavorful than you may have hoped. On the other hand, if you have a shorter, fatter cigar, the filler tobaccos within the smoke take over the blend, making the cigar you’re smoking full of strength.

When smoking a Toro, it’s an even balance for you to enjoy. It provides you the right amount of percentage of flavor from the wrapper and the strength of the filler that makes for one beautiful combination. For me, while trying out a new company’s product, the Toro is the go-to size for an initial sample. It will give me the best idea of what I’m in store for with the flavor output and strength of the cigar.
