Top Strongest of the Strong Cigars

The old saying in the cigar industry goes “it’s easy to make a strong cigar, its hard to make a good strong cigar”.  This statement eludes to the fact that blending a cigar using strong tobacco while maintaining balance can be incredibly tricky.  There is a difference between full-bodied and full flavor, so finding that balance has always been tricky.  However, in recent years we have seen some incredible cigars that are insanely strong, but also very smooth and balanced.

To wrap up a compelling month of Top Lists, we’d dedicate this week’s list to cigars that are the strongest of the strong. If you go forward and smoke any of these five sticks, we highly recommend you enjoy them after a nice, hearty meal. Don’t forget to get this limited sampler right here.

Oliva Cain F Lancero

Debuting in 2011, the Cain F Lancero from Oliva made quite the impression with cigar smokers across the board, by providing a complex profile and the utmost flavor. Coming off the heels of the success to the Nub series from Oliva, the Cain F had a lot to live up to and it did just that with a plethora of obese ring gauges and different vitolas.  Although it kicks off our list of one of the strongest cigars on the market, the Oliva Cain F Lancero is surprisingly smooth.

This sleek smoke has a Habano Wrapper, with Nicaraguan Binder and Ligero Long Fillers from Esteli, Condega, and the Jalapa regions. This Lancero delivers full-bodied notes of coffee, dark chocolate, leather, sweet spice, and wood. The construction of this mocha brown smoke is consistent throughout, allowing your palate to fully enjoy the strength and experience the Cain F Lancero provides.

Southern Draw Jacob’s Ladder Brimstone

Robert Holt of Southern Draw Cigars isn’t just one of the best cigar manufacturers in the business, but he’s also a dedicated family man. With naming a cigar after his beloved wife, the Rose of Sharon is one of his signature smokes. Another premium line of his is the Jacob’s Ladder, that came out in 2016, and in the summer of 2019, Robert kicked it up a notch and released the Southern Draw Jacob’s Ladder Brimstone.

What makes Jacob’s Ladder Brimstone so strong? Could be the three types of ligero the stick uses, as well as a Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The flavor notes that flow throughout this dark, luscious smoke are earth, white pepper, cedar, and espresso. Speaking from experience you’re going to want to enjoy this smoke after a hearty meal. The Brimstone that comes in the Perfecto size is one of those cigars where you need to respect its strength and enjoy the triple Ligero smoke for what it is.

El Rico Habano Corona Suprema

Blended by cigar master E.P. Carrillo, the El Rico Habano was originally created in his Little Havana Factory, centered in the heart of Miami. The Corona Suprema may be lesser known compared to Carrillo’s other brands, such as La Gloria Cubana, however for the longest time this was seen as the strongest cigar on the market.

The strength is due to high priming Nicaraguan tobaccos, some of which were first planted in 2001.  Cloaked in a Sun-Grown EMS Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, this smoke provides unique and authentic Cuban style flavor notes with the addition of leather and earth in each puff and draw. If you’re the type of cigar lover that is looking for a powerful premium smoke, then the El Rico Habano Corona Suprema is definitely the top choice for you.
