The Original Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 Cigar

December 19, 2015

Established in 1968, the famous Joya de Nicaragua marque is the very first cigar brand manufactured in Nicaragua. The history of Joya goes hand in hand with Nicaragua’s evolution over the last five decades as one of the most complex and enchanting countries in Latin America. However, years of war and the Contra revolution took its toll on the country and the tobacco industry ceased production for several years.

In 1990, Nicaragua was once again a country free of strife – and Joya de Nicaragua, with Dr. Alejandro Ernesto Martínez Cuenca at the helm, started to make and sell cigars to the American public.

Dr. Cuenca began experimenting with recipes, looking to create a smoking experience as close to the signature JdN Classico blend that made people fall in love with rich, earthy Nicaraguan cigars in the 1970’s. After much trial and error, he created the Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 an all-Nicaraguan puro (a cigar that uses only binders, fillers, and wrappers from one country).

Created in 1994, the Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970 is a powerful blend of aged Nicaraguan black tobaccos wrapped in a dark rosado-hued Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper. Designed to appeal to the most seasoned of full-bodied smokers, Antano is a smooth-smoking reincarnation of Joya’s original full-flavored gem.

Really delivering the goods, this high-octane stick enjoyed by US Presidents and celebrities is ripe with flavors. Demanding notes of pepper, leather, earth, sweet spice, and floral notes are delivered in a very well balanced and highly complex format. Joya de Nicaragua Antano is truly a luxury cigar that harkens back to the roots of this great cigar-producing nation.
