Collecting Zippo Lighters

February 25, 2016

Since the George G. Blaisdell fabricated the first Zippo lighter in 1933, more than 500 million lighters have been sold. He would be astonished today to discover that millions of Zippo fans around the world are collecting, buying, selling, swapping, and talking Zippo lighters every day

For many, collecting Zippo lighters and other Zippo products has become a hobby. The most popular collectables are the limited edition lighters like the NFL Giants Championship 2012 HP Chrome. This type of lighter was made to celebrate a specific event in time. Many years down the road, this will be a highly collectable item, especially for sports fans.

Even the replicas of the early Zippo models are collectable since the originals are virtually impossible to find, and if found you would have to pay a king’s ransom to own it. The Zippo 1935 Replica looks exactly like the original and proves that classic style is timeless.

Zippo Vintage 1937 Replica w/Slash features the signature square edges and understated diagonal etched lines in the corners that made this model truly elegant for the times.

The popular 500th Millionth Limited-Edition Replica is a great example.  This Zippo features the manufacturer’s extremely popular Brushed Chrome finish, adorned with eye-catching two-tone engraving. Only 50,000 of these were produced, and they all come with individual serial numbers to add more value for collectors.

The above Zippo lighters are just a few examples of what to look for when collecting, but this hobby becomes far more extensive as you put more time and effort into it. However far you take it, you will always be reassured that you are buying a virtually indestructible masterpiece backed the company’s famous lifetime warranty.
