How to Get Rid of Cigar Breath

Cigar smoking can be an amazing experience.  The art of tasting a handcrafted product, all the flavors coming together just right and the aroma it produces can help melt all your troubles away.

However, with every great thing in life, there’s often a small price you must pay.  With cigars comes the rich and complex smells and aromas they emit.

While for aficionados, the smell of cigars is something we actually enjoy, for the public at large, it can be quite intense.  When it comes to clothes or even your car, there are several sprays and powders that can be used to reduce that signature cigar smell.  However, cigar breath can be a tricky devil to get rid of.

Luckily for you, there are a few cigar breath remedies out there to make sure your breath stays fresh, even after a full day of cigar smoking.

Brushing Your Teeth

Ok, so this one seems a little obvious but it’s important to discuss anyway.  As your dentist has recommended since childhood, make sure you brush your teeth at least 2-3 times a day.

This not only keeps your mouth clean and healthy but will also stop the smoke breath from building up.  I’ve been in this industry for 10 years, and I have met my fair share of people who do not abide by this simple rule.

Hardcore Mouthwash

Mouthwash is a must-have to keep cigar breath at bay.  When I say mouthwash, I don’t mean some bumble gum flavored nonsense.  You need the real stuff;  the original Listerine or even a store brand version will help, but ideally, you want the yellow-colored, gasoline tasting mouthwash.   This is the only stuff that can really clean out all the smoke smell from a cigar.

The great thing about mouthwash is the ease of use.  Brands even make small, airline size bottles that you can keep on you at all times.  After smoking a heavy cigar, a quick shot of the wash, and a little gargling and you should be good to go.

Mints/Gum

For a cigar smoker on the go, having a stash of mints or fresh gum is going to be clutch.  For mints, I would go beyond simple Tic Tacs.  You are going to need something with a little more kick to it.  I would go with something like Altoids.  They are guaranteed to keep your breath fresh throughout the day.

Gum is also a nice and fun way to get that cigar taste out of your mouth.  Again, you are going to want something with some mint to it to freshen your breath.  Orbit is always a good choice, and the sweet mint flavor is incredible. Always keep a pack on you and after your cigar; just pop in a piece or two and you’re good to go.
