Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne

While this cigar was made to celebrate 10 years in the industry, for me this was the beginning of my love of this company.  In my earliest days in the cigar world, the Perdomo Champagne was my go-to mellow-bodied cigar.  It has everything you could want: mellow strength, great flavor, amazing construction, and consistency.

This hand-rolled gem is crafted using aged, Cuban-Seed Nicaraguan tobacco for the filler and binder.  It is then cloaked in an elegant “Champagne” Connecticut wrapper that has been aging for 6 years.  It is smooth and creamy, with hints of cocoa, leather, vanilla, and a touch of the test from the filler.  This is a great cigar for the beginner or someone just discovering the Perdomo brand.

Perdomo 20th Anniversary Sun Grown

The 10th Anniversary showed me that I really liked what Perdomo was doing.  The 20th Anniversary showed me that I actually loved it.  The 20th Anniversary is pure Nicaraguan joy, with some much complexity with each puff it’s hard to keep track of.  This is the cigar that showed me how versatile Nicaraguan tobacco is and what the right manufacturer can do with it.

The 20th Anniversary is rolled with aged Nicaraguan tobacco for the filler.  It is available in three wrapper varieties, but I go back to the Sun Grown every time.  This sun-kissed Nicaraguan wrapper has a slight reddish hue and just the right amount of oil.  The blend offers up notes of sweet spice, white pepper, earth, and some floral notes.  IF complexity and intense flavor are your things, this is the one for you.

Perdomo Habano Barrel Aged Maduro

While barrel aging is a common practice today, in my mind Perdomo cigars were one of the first to utilize it on a large scale.  For this release, Nick looked towards Bourbon barrel aging for his wrappers.  By letting the tobacco sit in the oak bourbon barrels, they not only becoming smoother but also take in all that sweet and vibrant flavor left behind by the bourbon.  While all three wrapper varieties are great, I think the Maduro version showcases this practice the best.

The Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper on this blend is aged in the bourbon barrels for 14 months, longer than any other wrapper in the line.  This is the perfect mix, as a Maduro cigar should have nice rich and sweet notes.  By utilizing this technique, Perdomo has created a smooth yet intensely flavorful cigar experience.  Notes of dark chocolate espresso and oak are followed by dashes of sweetness both from the Maduro process and the bourbon-soaked barrel.  For the aficionado looking for something unique and complex, I can’t think of a better choice.

Perdomo Box-Pressed 10th Sun Grown

The cigar so good, they released it twice.  In 2020, Nick Perdomo took his tried and true 10th Anniversary blend and re-released it in a beautiful box-pressed format, with all updated artwork and packaging.  You wouldn’t think the new format would matter, but in fact, it does.  While this release has all the characteristics I love about the original, it also brings something new and unique to the table.

This Nicaraguan puro uses finely aged tobacco for each part of the cigar.  The Cuban-seed filler and binder tobaccos are aged for a minimum of 6 years.  The Nicaraguan Sun Grown wrapper is aged for 6 years as well and is then aged for an additional 10 months in a bourbon barrel.  This creates a unique sweet and spicy profile with hints of bourbon sweetness, tobacco sweetness, white pepper, and leather.  This is my favorite of all the Sun Grown releases from Perdomo and I think it will be yours as well.

Perdomo Edicion de Silvio Robusto Maduro

I first smoked this cigar long before we carried it.  It was on my first trip to Nicaragua when I had the pleasure of visiting the Perdomo factory.  At the end of the tour, we were each given one of these special edition cigars, and from that moment I wanted nothing more than to make sure we carried this exquisite line.  The cigar is named for Nick Perdomo’s late grandfather and mentor, Silvio Perdomo.

The process of rolling the Edicion de Silvio is a bit more stringent than the rest of the Perdomo lineup.  Only 5 of the most seasoned cigar rollers also known as torcedors, are allowed to roll it.  It uses finely aged tobacco that has been aging for years longer than any other line.  The Maduro wrapped version, my favorite, uses unique Nicaraguan broadleaf tobacco. This has the best aspects of zesty Nicaraguan tobacco as well as a rich and smokey broadleaf tobacco.  In terms of flavor, construction, smoke output, just about everything, this has been and will always be my favorite Perdomo cigar.  This is definitely a special occasion smoke.
