Cuban H. Upmann Magnum 46 Cigar Review

October 17, 2018

H.Upmann has long been considered the boutique option of the Cuban cigar community.  It doesn’t share the fame or vast name recognition as the Cohiba Cuban or Romeo y Julieta Cuban, however, those who have smoked them would say they are among the finest Cuban cigars in the world.  The Petite Corona size was even the favorite of President John F Kennedy.  When choosing an H.Upmann for this project, it was no contest, we decided upon an H.Upmann Magnum 46 Cuban cigar review.

For the longest time, the H.Upmann 46 Magnum was a stand alone line.  However, about a decade ago, several new sizes were added to the Magnum line, albeit it in smaller, limited quantities.  The H.Upmann Magnum 46 is stunning and complex smoke that is rolled into a thin robusto size.  Its official size is 5 5/8th with a 46 ring gauge, hence the name Magnum 46.  It is one of the sweetest Cuban cigars we have tried with a nice orange citrus note along with hints of nuts and leather.  A distinct floral aftertaste is apparent throughout the smoke, although it never overpowers the blend, but is instead a nice reminder of the cigar you just enjoyed.

Among top Cuban cigar connoisseurs, the H.Upmann Magnum 46 Cuban cigar is not the finest H.Upmann Cuban, but one of the best smoking Cuban cigars available.  If you are looking for a similar option here in the US, the Foundation El Gueguense, Dunbarton Sobremesa, and Espinosa Laranja Reserva are all terrific choices that offer similar profiles and similar size options.  If ever presented with the option to travel to an authentic Cuban cigar store, the H.Upmann Magnum 46 Cuban cigar should be at the top of your must-try list.
