Top Cigar Lounges in New Orleans for Mardi Gras

Tuesday, February 25 is the start date of Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday. The carnival celebration kicks off the Christian season of Lent. New Orleans is famous for its Mardi Gras celebration and has become known as the craziest and most exciting carnival celebration in the world.

If you have the courage and the will to attend Mardi Gras, you will find yourself in one of the coolest cities in America. New Orleans is known for its historic French Quarter, its rich history, and its cuisine. But what many people don’t know, is that it’s also home to quite a few top-notch cigar bars.  Let’s check out some of the best places to enjoy a cigar while you’re hanging out in the Big Easy.

Tujague's Restaurant

Tujague’s is the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans, having been built around 1856.  It is among the most prized restaurants in the city and it is said to be the innovator of brunch.  It offers up traditional Creole dishes, such as tender beef brisket and tasty shrimp remoulades, along with several signature cocktails.

The bar also has a balcony for cigar smokers that overlooks the French Quarter.  After enjoying some pork belly, brisket and dirty rice, this is a great place to sit back, enjoy a cigar and a drink and take in the madness that is Mardi Gras.

Fulton Alley

While Tujague’s is more of your traditional, esteemed New Orleans restaurant, Fulton Alley is a more modern and engaging location in the Warehouse District.  It is a bowling alley but with a touch of luxury added to it.

Instead of those stingy, asylum-white benches, you can instead relax in leather chairs and couches during your game.  The food is also phenomenal, with items like traditional meat pies and southern-style chicken.

Outside is a modern and comfortable patio with full food and drinks service.  This is the place to light up your cigars after knocking down a couple of turkeys.  Enjoy the great food, fun environment, and craft cocktails while smoking one of your favorite cigars.

Après Lounge

A few years ago, the city of New Orleans passed some legislation, making it almost impossible for a new cigar bar to open.  However, the luxurious Apres Lounge in the Warehouse District decided to go around that by opening an outdoor cigar bar.  In a city where you don’t really need to worry about the cold, this cigar lounge in New Orleans can be opened year-round and offers a wide range of food and drink choices.

The cigar service, known as Apres Brulee, offers up a wide range of top cigar brands such as Drew Estate, Fuente, and Montecristo.  Pairing these up with their famed champagne and cocktails will make for a luxurious and memorable evening.

La Habana Hemingway Cigar Bar

La Habana Hemingway is the only full cigar bar located in the French Quarter, making it a dream destination for aficionados who want to attend the festivities.  Hemingway offers both an open lounge as well as private events if you want some space to yourself.  The bar’s drink menu is stacked with high-end scotch and bourbons, along with a solid list of beers.

The cigar selection is where everything truly stands out.  The bar carries a  full range of top brands such as Paron, Avo, Ashton, and Cohiba.  This might be the only game in town in terms of a true, old-fashioned cigar bar, but that doesn’t make it a slouch.  It is a really cool spot that you should add to your list for Mardi Gras 2020.
