Top Cigars to Celebrate Halloween
T’is the season for skeletons, candy, and all things spooky. Fall is finally upon us and with it comes everyone’s favorite holiday Halloween.
Even with the current state of the world, people are still dedicated to celebrating this amazing and fun holiday anyway they can.
Each year, when planning out our Top Five lists, we make sure to pay extra close attention to our Halloween pack. The cigars have to not only fit the theme of the holiday but also, they need to, of course, be top-notch cigars.
This year’s list is one of my most favorite yet, and I’m sure that all you spooky cats out there are going to enjoy it as well.
So, without further ado, let us take a look at this year’s Top Cigars for Halloween. Make sure to pick up our limited sampler here.
NightShade by Drew Estate
This is not only our newest private label project, but it is in my mind, one of our best. This delicious and flavorful smoke just arrived a month or so ago but is already becoming one of our most popular products.
Its dark colors and name are taken from the actual plant species of tobacco, which is of the Solanaceae family, also known as Night Shade. We felt its name, profile and the overall theme was a perfect fit for Halloween.
The Nightshade is hand-rolled at the legendary Drew Estate factory in Nicaragua. It uses aged Dominican and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos followed by an Indonesian binder and a dark and oily Connecticut Habano wrapper.
The resulting flavor profile is rich with notes of dark fruits, leather, earth, and a dash of spice. The construction on this cigar is flawless with a nice even burn and white ash that rarely falls off.
Another top private label, the Boneshaker, is one of the strongest cigars on the market.
The entire series was made for aficionados who like that extra kick but still want a well-made, balanced cigar.
Our third entry into the Boneshaker line, the Tombstone, is the first one made by legendary manufacturer AJ Fernandez. It still has all the flavor and power of the other Boneshaker lines, but with a bit more of a balanced and nuanced flavor.
Hand-rolled in Nicaragua, the Tombstone uses aged Nicaraguan filler and binder tobaccos, all grown on AJ’s personal farm.
The wrapper is a specially grown Ecuadorian Sumatra Maduro leaf with just a tad of oil and hardly any blemishes.
The cigar provides notes of dark chocolate and coffee mix with a ting of pepper and earth for a full-bodied complex smoke. The Tombstone will make for a great full-bodied, Halloween experience.
Tatuaje Skinny Monster Face
We couldn’t make a Halloween list without including one of the Tatuaje Monster series.
This is not only the signature, Halloween themed cigar, but also one of the most famous and influential boutique cigars in the industry.
This is the line that started the trend of culturally themed, fun cigars. Each year, Tatuaje releases a new cigar named after a famous movie monster. Among my favorites are Jason, which we used last year, and the Face.
The Face takes its name from Leatherface, the chainsaw-wielding villain from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
This lancero sized smoke is hand-rolled at the My Father factory using Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder.
The wrapper is a stunning Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that is bristling with notes of mocha, earth, and a dash of red pepper. The thinner ring gauge is perfect for optimizing the flavor of this horrifyingly good cigar.
Black Label Trading Company Bishops Blend
One of my favorite annual releases is also a perfect fit for smoking during Halloween. Black Label Trading Company is known for its dark, intensely flavorful cigars and its edgy, sometimes spooky themes.
While the Bishops Blend isn’t released specifically during Halloween, its name, band, and overall blend make its feel right at home during this season.
What makes this cigar truly unique is its blend. It uses Connecticut and Pennsylvania broadleaf tobaccos not for the wrapper or binder, but the filler.
Combined with a stunning Ecuadorian Habano Maduro wrapper makes this a dark and bold smoke with notes of rich dark fruits, leather, chocolate, and a touch of sweetness.
As with any limited release, these are becoming harder and harder to find, so this might be your last chance to enjoy one this year.
Las Calaveras 2020
Here we have another quintessential annual release from one of my favorite companies, Crowned Heads.
Las Calaveras has become one of the most anticipated releases each year, and I think this year’s cigar is the best one since the original, and that is saying something.
Named after the Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead, the cigar was created to pay homage to those family and friends who have passed during the last year. Its theme and band make it another great cigar to smoke during All Hallows Eve.
This year’s Las Calaveras, like all previous incarnations, was hand-rolled at the My Father factory.
It uses Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder, followed by a stunning Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper. Notes of raisins, chocolate, earth, and oak combined for a full-flavored smoke.
Its flawless construction, along with its spectacular blend, makes this one of my favorite cigars of the past year.
Crowned Heads reduced its production numbers this year, and they are already selling out, so your best chance to enjoy one is right here.
