Top 5 Cigars for Summer 2021

Technically summer starts June 22nd, but by the look and feel of the hot weather outside, we’ve already started enjoying summer activities. Whether we are enjoying the pool, barbecuing, or going on late afternoon hikes, my favorite season of them all is finally here. With summer in full effect, that means our days last a bit longer. For cigar lovers, this is extremely beneficial for all of us. The sun doesn’t set until almost 9:00 p.m. So we can enjoy a relaxing dinner and then kick back and enjoy an after-dinner stogie and cocktail. Or maybe you can fit an extra cigar in at night on the weekends after smoking one poolside at three in the afternoon.

Last summer we compiled a list of premium cigars to enjoy during the summer of 2020. But for this list, we are featuring two new cigars that came out last year after our summer list was published. So without further ado, here are Nick’s Top 5 Cigars to enjoy in the summer of 2021. Between Romeo y Julieta and Crowned Heads cigars, this year’s list will not disappoint!

Don’t forget to get the limited time sampler provided in the link below. Enjoy!

Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua

To kick things off for our Top 5 Cigars of the Summer in 2021, we have the delectable new smoke from Romeo y Julieta, the Reserva Real Nicaragua in the Churchill size. Now, this cigar comes in multiple sizes, but we figured that the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua Churchill would be best enjoyed when you have an ample amount of time. Released in March of 2020, the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua was a collaborative effort between long-time friends AJ Fernandez and Rafal Nodal of Altadis U.S.A.

This medium-bodied Nicaraguan puro was manufactured at the AJ Fernandez factory in Nicaragua. Some flavor notes you’ll detect while smoking the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua are black pepper, leather, cedar, and cocoa. As stated before, the sampler includes the 7 x 50 Churchill size. However, the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua also comes in a 6 x 60 Magnum6 x 54 Toro, and a 5 x 50 Robusto. Ashton Symmetry

Next up on our top cigars for Summer 2021 is the Ashton Symmetry. This gorgeous-looking golden smoke is a collaborative effort between Ashton cigars and Arturo Fuente. Fans of both Ashton and Arturo Fuente speculated for years, and were pleasantly surprised with this collaboration came out as amazing as it did. We feature the 5 x 50 Robusto Ashton Symmetry in the sampler pack, but this smoke also comes in four different sizes. The reason I picked the Ashton Symmetry Robusto was for its perfect size as well as the delicious tobaccos that are featured throughout this beauty.

Cloaked in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, with Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers, and a binder from the Dominican Republic, the Ashton Symmetry is a full-bodied premium smoke. Don’t let the light, golden shine of the wrapper trick you into thinking this is a medium-bodied smoke. Each and every puff of the Ashton Symmetry will surprise you in every great way possible. Some delicious flavor notes you’ll detect while smoking the Ashton Symmetry are white pepper, cinnamon, and caramel. The symmetrical work ethic of both Ashton and Arturo Fuente made for one amazing cigar line. Get a box of 25 of this affordable high-end smoke that is the Ashton Symmetry today on JR Cigars.

Crowned Heads Mil Dias

A cigar from Crowned Heads on our Top 5 list? How shocked can you really be. But push all our bias aside, the Crowned Heads Mil Dias was one of the best cigars to be released last year and deserves a spot in any top list from every cigar publication in the world. If you don’t know much about Crowned Heads Mil Dias then let us fill you in. Crowned Heads founder Jon Huber, alongside Don Eradio Pichardo of Tabacalera Pichardo and Luciano Meirelles of Ace Prime Cigars, created and eventually tested this blend back in 2017. The name “Mil Dias” translates to 1000 days. The 1000 days were spent making this near-perfect blend for Jon Huber and Crowned Heads.

The Crowned Heads Mil Dias features an Ecuador Habano wrapper, with a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Costa Rica and Nicaragua. We chose the 6.38 x 50 Double Robusto for this top five because this is the perfect size to enjoy on a warm, relaxing afternoon in the summer. However, if you’re looking for something different, there are five other sizes that come in a box of 10 that are featured on our website.

This medium to full-bodied smoke has a plethora of delicious flavor notes you may detect such as pepper, earth, spice, and coffee. The Mil Dias is near and dear to Jon Huber and is a cigar that was created with an abundance of love and compassion for cigar making.

Rocky Patel The Edge Corojo

Next up we have the Edge Corojo from Rocky Patel. The Rocky Patel The Edge Corojo was birthed by yet another collaborative effort from two titans within the industry. Rocky Patel and Plasencia teamed up to create this premium smoke that has tobacco that’s been aged up to five years throughout each and every cigar under the brand. This Jr Exclusive smoke comes in nine different sizes, but we are featuring the 5.50 x 54 Gran Robusto in our top sampler today that does not disappoint one bit.

This medium to full-bodied smoke is cloaked in a wrapper from Costa Rica, that is bound by tobaccos from Nicaragua, and filled with Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos as well. With the forces of all of these tobaccos, the Rocky Patel The Edge Corojo has enticing flavor notes of spice, leather, cocoa, earth, and caramel sweetness on the backend.

This cigar was primarily made for the seasoned cigar smoker. Espinosa Laranja Reserva

Last but not least, we have a cigar that is good all year round but really pops in the summertime. We have the Espinosa Laranja Reserva to close out our top five list. Under the careful supervision of cigar master Erik Espinosa, the Espinosa Laranja Reserva is manufactured at the La Zona factory in Nicaragua.

Featured in this top sampler is the Espinosa Laranja Reserva Corna Gorda. I’ve paired this 5.63 x 46 medium to full-bodied smoke multiple times with a Blue Moon and Allagash White and is one of the best pairings I’ve had in a really long time. Cloaked in a tangy Brazilian wrapper, the Espinosa Laranja Reserva has Nicaraguan tobaccos for the filler and binder. Some flavor notes you’ll detect while smoking the Espinosa Laranja Reserva Corona Gorda are cinnamon, black pepper, citrus, hazelnut, and cedar.

The Espinosa Laranja Reserva is a true masterpiece and will always be my go-to cigar to enjoy all summer long!
