Top 10 ‘Tasty’ Cigars

January 18, 2018

Premium cigars stand above the rest of the tobacco industry for two reasons: their level of quality, and their exceptional taste. Tasty cigars have always been in demand, as cigars have always been about showcasing flavor, and there’s certainly no shortage of delectable selections in any tobacco shop. There’s truly something offered for every preferred profile, as brands often don’t limit themselves to a specific audience. There’s no golden rule on what makes a tasty cigar, but seasoned connoisseurs seemingly gravitate towards premium selections for their superior, robust flavor. Finding some of the tastiest cigars in our circle can be task in and of itself, so we’re here to help, with a quick look at our Top 10 Tasty Cigars:

My Father Le Bijou 1922:

A former ‘Cigar of the Year’ titlist, this 97-rated gem is surely one tasty cigar. The My Father brand has built a reputation on great flavor, so you really can’t go wrong with any of their selections. They all use top-of-the-line luxury tobaccos, and come at a steal of a price for their quality. But I’m partial to the ol’ Le Bijou 1922. It’s visually striking, but its flavor is where it truly shines. Its peppery notes brilliantly morph, rounding out with a perfect finish of harmony each time.

**

Flores Serie Privada Maduro:

Boasting a rich blend of quality tobaccos from Nicaragua, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, this tasty cigar is heating up the sales charts thanks to its fantastic nuances of roasted coffee beans, cocoa and vanilla, along with a well-balanced vigor that makes it truly unique. This premium Maduro is a can’t-miss, and has already earned an impressive 93-rating.

**

Macanudo Inspirado Black:

The Inspirado line-up has brought the brand back into the fold with young-adult smokers, and the full-bodied Inspirado Black is one of their most flavorful. A first-rate blend of Dominican, Honduran, and rich Nicaraguan tobaccos bring a bit of heft to this full-flavored delight, which is sure to stimulate any palate with a bold burst of deep, earthy notes.

**

Rocky Patel Sun Grown Maduro:

Rocky Patel has made waves since he debuted in the premium cigar industry. Each release is as inspired as the next, but this Maduro might be one of his best. The ‘Sun Grown’ series has been a continual hit with consumers, and came back into the limelight with the introduction of this Maduro variety. This Nicaraguan-made smoke is rich, complex, and obscenely tasty, and comes with the quality and craftsmanship you can expect from the RP brand. With its great flavor and affordable price tag, this quality cigar easily makes this ‘tasty’ top 10.

**

Liga Privada No. 9:

Drew Estate’s Ligo Privada No. 9 has been generating some buzz for a few years now, thanks to its aged Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, and quality fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. Still one of my favorite smokes out there, as this premium, handmade Belicoso is the one that put Drew Estate on the map for me, and puts them on my ‘Top 10 Tasty’ list.

**

Joya Black Double Robusto:

The darker, bolder sequel to the popular Joya Red line-up, the Black Double Robusto is one of the best-rounded and inventive smokes I’ve come across in some time. An intricate profile of dried fruits, cedar, caramel, and chocolate are impeccably underscored by bold bursts of pepper, espresso and even citrus notes. The Joya team set out to create one of the most uniquely flavored profiles to be recently introduced, and they’ve no-doubt succeeded. This is one tasty Nicaraguan stogie.

**

MONTE by Montecristo AJ Fernandez:

When two of the most well-known names in premium cigars come together, you better believe the result is one tasty cigar you won’t be able to put down. This extension of the extensive Montecristo portfolio has been masterfully crafted by one of today’s all-star blenders, and is a lively, earthy cigar that perfectly balances a slew of complex flavors. If taste is your priority, then any cigar out of Tabacalera Fernandez is probably a good bet. But to me, MONTE is one of the tastiest.

**

MBombay Gaaja:

Bombay Tobak Founder Mel Shah’s legacy in the cigar industry will always be behind some of the tastiest boutique cigars ever offered. The recently introduced Gaaja line-up is a stunning, box-pressed collection, which boasts one of the richest, invigorating profiles I’ve ever experienced. Rich, creamy, woodsy, spicy, and more— you’ll find everything from floral notes to fresh fruit in this intricate offering. Taste aficionados dare not miss this premium gem!

**

Padrón 1926 Series No. 2 Natural:

With an astounding 96-rating, the Padrón 1926 Series No. 2 Natural was actually the runner-up (for the second time running) to Cigar Aficionado’s ‘Cigar of the Year 2017’ title. This gem utilizes high-quality, hand-selected Nicaraguan tobaccos, which are then aged for another five full years. This full-bodied masterpiece is one of the brand’s best, and is one of the tastiest cigars any smoker can experience.

**

Southern Draw Jacob’s Ladder:

These exceptional cigars boast aged Nicaraguan filler tobaccos, an Ecuadorian binder, and an oily broadleaf wrapper; resulting in a rich and complex smoke that’s commendably tasty. A medium-to-full bodied profile of deep, robust flavors are worthy of any flavor connoisseur’s consideration. A new stick from a relatively newer brand, yes, but anyone looking for a tasty masterpiece should certainly familiarize themselves with this tasty Maduro!
