Por Larranaga— An Old Cuban Classic Has Returned!

January 26, 2017

Founded in Havana in 1834, the Por Larranaga brand quickly became the pride of Cuba thanks to its smooth, rich flavor and satisfying natural sweetness. A popular choice for many decades, the original blend is still in production on the forbidden Island today.

After several resurrections in both the Dominican Republic and Honduras that garnered lukewarm appeal, this famous old brand is back and better than ever. Once again returning to the DR, this new iteration is fashioned by the skilled artisans of Altadis USA, makers of such notable brands as Romeo y Julieta, H.Upmann, and Montecristo, to name a few. With a portfolio this grand, we are quite confident that the new Por Larranaga will be sticking around for a very long time.

Right out of the gate, Por Larranaga has a fresh new coat of paint with its elegant dual- hinged, emerald green 20- count box festooned with the original Cuban brand artwork displayed inside the top lid, along with matching artwork on every cigar band. This new branding concept adds a sleek modern look while still paying tribute to the brands historic roots.

The exciting new Por Larranaga is brimming with vintage tobacco goodness. This exceptional recipe includes a Dominican Piloto 2012 binder, and filler tobaccos comprising rare and fine Dominican Piloto 2012 and Olor 2013 leaves. Surrounding this superb assortment of perfectly aged tobaccos is an oily, evenly colored, golden brown Ecuador Connecticut wrapper that is silky to the feel.

The pre-light nose is rich with earthy tobacco notes. One lit this premium beauty offers bold rich flavors and aroma, with solid medium body strength.  Throughout the length of the smoke, you will experience an evolving tapestry of smooth, sweet, nutty, and spicy flavors all presented in a highly complex and perfectly balanced manner. A long creamy finish leaves a clean taste on the palate. And, like every other Altadis USA offering, the cigar burns without a hitch and has great overall construction.

Por Larranaga is currently available in three sizes, a (6 × 46) Gran Corona, a (5 × 52) Robusto, and the Toro that weighs in with a very popular (6 x 50) size.

Experience this modern rendition of an age-old classic for yourself, and we bet it will become a staple in your favorite cigar humidor.
