IPCPR 2016: Drew Estate

August 4, 2016

Every year, I await with immense anticipation for the IPCPR tradeshow.  Yes, I enjoy the fact that I get to go to the show an interview the manufacturers and party and all that fun stuff.  Yet, my eagerness has been and always will be based in wanting to see the new cigar releases.  As a total cigar nerd, nothing intrigues me more than seeing all the terrific cigars that these companies have been working on all year.  This was the 2nd trade show I was able to attend just like last year I was like a kid in a candy store.  I ran around the floor for 4 days looking into all the booths and checking out all the new releases.  My first stop is almost always at the Drew Estate booth.  It is always the most captivating and you have no choice but to bask in its glory, with its colorful artwork, loud music and Manhattan bridge reconstruction, it’s always quite a site.  This year saw the release of several new blends from Drew Estate and new size offerings that every Drew fan can’t wait to get their hands on.

Willy Herrera added a new addition to the esteemed Herrera Esteli line.  For this project he combined the knowledge and resources of Drew Estate with the craftsmanship and creativity he garnered working for El Titan de Bronze.  The Herrera Esteli Miami is a delicious smoke with a ton of flavor.  It is rolled at Willys old factory in Miami using vintage Dominican and Nicaraguan long filler tobaccos.  It uses a rich Ecuadorian Sumatra binder followed by a flawless Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper.  It combines a subtle spice and zesty with the rich full flavors of the dark wrapper.  It is an amazing combination of past and present for the great Willy Herrera.

Drew Estate went a little out there with this next release, combining great flavor with a crazy concept.  The Swamp Thing is a line extension of the KFC line.  IT is named after the age old movie monster and is split with a green candela wrapper.  It has a unique flavor profile mixing the light slightly sweet taste of the wrapper with the smoky notes of the filler and binder.  This is a guaranteed fan favorite.

This year also saw several new size offerings in some of Drew Estates most popular smoke.  The Liga Privada line is now being offered in the famed Flying Pig size. Yes the No.9 and the T52 are now both available in the Flying Pig shape.  Along with that, both Ligas now have a new tubo size as well.  I wouldn’t get your hopes up, I guarantee these are going to sell out fast.  But maybe, just maybe, you’ll be able to get some right here at JR Cigar.
