When the legendary king of luxury cigars Nat Sherman opened his first shop in the Big Apple in 1929, it quickly became a stomping ground for just about every type of smoker. Movie stars, famous athletes, gangsters, and just about anybody else that loved a good smoke could often be seen hobnobbing together in this smoke filled palace. Moreover, all were smoking the Epoca, the first premium cigar brand to grace the new stores humidor. The original Nat Sherman Epoca was a clear Havana, which means they were fashioned with 100% Cuban Tobacco rolled in the U.S. This one singular stick helped launch an iconic name in the industry that has become a top destination stop for all “herfers” visiting New York City. Flash forward to today, and the family run Nat Sherman empire is bigger and better than ever, therefore in 2014 to commemorate their celebrated history, the family decided to resurrect this 84 year old inaugural brand .
Famous cigar master Manuel Quesada was given the honor of creating the new Nat Sherman Epoca project. Manufactured at Manuel’s prized factory in the Dominican Republic, many rigorous blend samplings were undertaken to ensure this smoke was worthy of such an honorable name, and after much trial and error, Quesada and crew finally hit the proverbial nail on the head, and released a cigar that had the original Epoca’s “Cubanesque” flavor in spades! In staying true to its roaring twenties origins, the new release mirrors the original’s true Havana form right down to the exact same Cuban style box.
Nat Sherman Epoca “Part Duex” features aged Nicaraguan and Dominican Cuban-seed long-fillers, a Dominican binder, and a gorgeous golden brown Ecuadorian seed Connecticut wrapper. Just like its ancestor, the finished product offers a smoke that is mild to medium bodied in strength, yet bold enough in character to hold its own with many fuller-bodied sticks. Expect a blend that’s smooth and creamy, but still packed with enticing flavors of coffee, nuts, wood, creamy vanilla, and just a pinch of spice.
