Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Cigars

The world-famous  Romeo y Julieta brand has a storied past that dates back to Havana Cuba, circa 1875. While it still remains one of   Cuba’s largest cigar brands, now under government control,  the original pre- Cuban revolution  operation  was moved to the Dominican Republic, where it’s still produced  for the American market under the direction of Altadis U.S.A.

Thanks to its continued growth over the last couple of decades, Romeo y Julieta now has branch factories and farms in both  Honduras and Nicaragua that create some of the fuller-bodied Romeo blends.

Produced in the original Dominican factory in La Romana, Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real cigars stand out as one of the most popular offerings in the entire brand portfolio, and received a well deserved 91-rating from Cigar Aficionado.

Reserve Real cigars are billed as a smoother, creamier version of the 1875 series; the first non-Cuban Romeo offering that graced the Dominican shores. This is due in large part to replacing the signature Indonesian wrapper found in 1875,  with a  silky-smooth Ecuadorian seed Connecticut shade leaf.  This Connecticut crown really tones down the strength of the bold  Nicaraguan tobaccos used for the binder and most of a long-filler blend that’s laced with a few  Dominican leaves.

Fans of the original Romeo y Julieta 1875  should enjoy this rich velvety Connecticut version, for its also medium-bodied in strength, and introduces its own equally compelling flavors of coffee, leather, wood, and hints of chocolate, punctuated with a rich tobacco sweetness.
