JR Revival
This latest cigar we’re reviewing comes from our hearts and creative minds here at JR Cigars. The JR Revival is the first of many lines under the revival name to grace the presence of novice and aficionado cigar smokers across the globe.
Exclusively sold through the JR Cigars website alone, the JR Revival brand celebrates the longevity of JR Cigars, as well as tips the cap in appreciation of premium cigars through each decade.
We’ll take you on a journey through the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 2010s with each line dedicated to factories that were producing cigars during that era and how the styles and blends were being curated during each time period.
Our first launch into this endeavor, JR Cigars is starting by paying homage to the 1970s. Although cigars were manufactured very differently than they are today, it’s the 1970s that jump-started a different approach to making the cigars we enjoy smoking today.
With each cigar line dedicated to a specific decade, JR Cigars will be turning to a factory that was producing high-quality premium cigars during that epoch. For the Revival 1970s, we turned to the famed Quesada factory to help us launch this long-awaited cigar line we’ve been tirelessly working on for over a year.
Let’s rewind the clocks and jump into the highly anticipated and delicious JR Revival.

Cold Draw Impressions
Before we lit and smoked the JR Revival Toro, the cold draw was one of the tastiest experiences I’ve had on a cold draw test in quite some time. The richness and flavorful notes I was picking up had my mouth watering as if I were enjoying a delicious piece of cake.
Notes of cocoa, cream, and nut were at the forefront of the cold draw. After doing the cold draw test for roughly five minutes, the flavors remained notable throughout.
I kept thinking if the cold draw was this tasty and the notes were that prominent right off the bat, then I was in for one delicious smoking session.
First Third
Once lit, the flavors I tasted of this mellow to medium-bodied cigar in the cold draw were even more present than before. The smoothness and perfectly crafted Toro burned with perfection from the very beginning.
The notes of cocoa and cream dominated my palate but didn’t overpower one another whatsoever. The perfect balance of sweetness and lavishness played counterparts as I entered the second third.
Second Third
Well into the second third, the construction and flavors remained unblemished. The note of cream seemed to taper down a bit and cocoa remained the dominant flavor.
As I was approaching the middle of the cigar right before entering the final third, a wave of delicious cashews and peanuts came into play.
With Quesada’s expertise in blending, they could only assume that most consumers couldn’t resist the popular pairing of chocolate and peanuts as a treat for their taste buds.
Final Third
As I came to the final third of the JR Revival, all three flavor notes I detected in the cold draw were present.
The harmonization of cocoa, peanuts, and cream played out perfectly as I enjoyed the Revival down until I couldn’t physically smoke anymore.
This was a situation where I had the chance to sit back and relax while smoking a cigar with no distractions and I took advantage by enjoying every last bit of this delectable cigar.
Pairing Options
At first, I only had a bottle of water beside me as my pairing option. I didn’t want a soda or scotch to overpower my palate while enjoying the JR Revival for the first time.
However, as I was entering the second third, I felt like a cup of hot coffee would only enhance this smoking experience, and boy was I right! With very little sugar and cream in my coffee, the JR Revival paired exceptionally well with my beverage choice.
As I continue to enjoy more JR Revival, I will venture off into other beverage options, but it may be difficult to top a hot cup of coffee alongside this exceptionally well-constructed mellow to medium-bodied Toro.
