Indian Motorcycle Habano Gordo Cigar Review

Indian Motorcycle was an American Company that was founded in Spirit Lake, Iowa. They produced some of the greatest bikes in history from 1901 through 1953  before the company went bankrupt. However, in  2011 Indian Motorcycles was purchased by Polaris Industries and the company is thriving once again.  To pay homage to this legendary brand, Phil Zanghi, co-owner of Debonaire Cigar, has created a highly popular line of handmade premium cigars called ‘Indian Motorcycle’.

Available in four sizes, with two different wrapper styles,  today, I decided to take the big 6 x58  Habano Gordo cigar for a test drive.

Origin and Blend

Country of Origin:      Dominican Republic

Wrapper:                      Ecuador Habano

Binder:                         Dominican Republic

Filler:                            Dominican Republic/ Honduras

Strength:                      Medium-Full

Indian Motorcycle Habano Gordo

Pre-Light

The  Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on the Indian Motorcycle was dark brown in color and displayed a few noticeable veins, but that didn’t distract from its solid hand feel and nice oily patina. The band which features the famed Indian Motorcycle logo with red foil accents, really adds a striking finishing touch.

The First Third

During the first third of the Indian Motorcycle cigar, there were hearty notes of leather, damp earth, and hay,  backed by a bold blast of black pepper on the finish that permeated through my nostrils. Halfway in, I began discovering that subtle nuances of dark roast coffee and chocolate were joining the fray, making the smoke smoother and more palatable. Throughout this time period, the burn was crisp and even, with no touch-ups required

The Second Third

In the second third, this big stick is churning out a  smoky vanilla-like aroma that I found extremely enjoyable. This crowd-pleasing room note, backed by rich flavors of bittersweet chocolate, leather, spice, and dark roast coffee was enhanced by a long-lasting sweet tobacco finish replacing the black pepper that I encountered during the first third.

The Last Third

In the last third, this big stick is performing seamlessly while serving up the same inviting flavors found in the second third. This includes bittersweet chocolate, leather, spice, and dark roast coffee.  The draw remained effortless while producing solid white ash, and the thick clouds produced more of that smoky vanilla aroma that beautifully enhanced the overall experience.

Final Thoughts

  • Although the Indian Motorcycle Habano Gordo doesn’t rank up there with the very best cigars that I have ever smoked, its complex flavors, top-notch construction, and delightful aroma, make it a stick that I look forward to smoking again.

  • In a market filled with great tasting, well-made premium cigars with a reasonable price tag, the Indian Motorcycle Habano Gordo could easily be overlooked. However, if you’re on the hunt for an uber big ring cigar with distinctively satisfying flavors, then this gem is definitely worth a try.
