Henry Clay Stalk Cut Cigars: A New Take on This Classic Cuban Heritage Brand

April 11, 2019

Altadis U.S.A., home to some of the worlds most popular brands, has once again energized its classic cigar line, with the Henry Clay Stalk Cut cigars.  It started when Altadis collaborated with Pete Johnson and his world famous Tatuaje brand to create their first small batch offering called Henry Clay Tattoo. The cigar became such a big hit that it sparked new interest in this old Cuban Heritage brand, so Altadis took advantage of the buzz by creating the Henry Clay Stalk Cut cigars. Altadis says that the name refers to a  tobacco harvesting method in which the entire stalk is cut and removed from the soil, then hung to dry in the tobacco barns. Used for the Henry Clay Stalk Cut Cigars, this method allows the tobacco to retain its natural oils, sap, and nutrients to yield richer, more oily and flavorful leaves.”  Henry Clay Stalk Cut uses a rare 2012 vintage Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper over a 2010 Vintage Dominican Piloto binder, and a filler leaves consisting of 2012 Vintage Dominican Olor, 2012 Vintage Dominican Piloto, and 2013 Vintage Nicaraguan Criollo.

Visual inspection reveals a gorgeous premium cigar with a perfect box-pressed shape and a deep reddish hue wrapper with a nice oily sheen.  A testimony to its top-notch construction, this is a slow burning cigar filled to the brim with solidly packed tobacco. The char line is even, and it firmly holds solid grey ash. Full bodied in strength, yet exceptionally smooth and well refined, Henry Clay Stalk Cut cigars provide the discerning smoker with rich and rewarding tasting notes of dark chocolate, coffee bean, leather, and spice.

To appeal to different smoking styles, Henry Clay Stalk Cut cigars are available in a 6 × 46 Gran Corona, a 5 × 50 Robusto, and a hefty 6 x 54 Toro, all presented in eye-catching steel gray boxes holding 20 of these luxury cigars.
