Ferio Tego Elegancia & Generoso Cigar Review

March 30, 2022

Sometimes, it’s funny how life works out for certain people. In this case, we’re talking about Michael Herklots of Ferio Tego. Michael worked with Nat Sherman for years before it closed shop in September 2020 due to several things. One being the Covid-19 pandemic, and the other being that Altria, the primary shareholder of Nat Sherman Cigars, was looking for a new buyer.

So once Nat Sherman closed its doors, Michael Herklots was without a job for the first time in a very long time. However, for Michael, the closing of Nat Sherman was motivation to start his own thing up. So, he, along with former Nat Sherman employee, Brendon Scott, founded the hottest new company in the industry today, Ferio Tego.

While at Nat Sherman, Michael worked extremely close with the Plasencia and Quesada families. When starting up Ferio Tego, Michael had a clear-cut vision of wanting to continue that relationship with both factories. So, every cigar released from Ferio Tego will be coming from Quesada or Plasencia. All while still being distributed by Davidoff of Geneva, where Michael Herklots’ first steps in the cigar business began.

While starting from the ground up, Herklots bought the rights to the names “Timeless Panamericana” and the “Metropolitan,” former names that were under the Nat Sherman Catalog. Adding more to the brand, Herklots and Scott created two new cigars for all to enjoy; the Elegancia and the Generoso.

Unfortunately, these limited-edition cigars are sold out on our website. But lucky for you, these two cigar lines will be yearly limited-edition releases that will have a tweak to their blend each year. You can hear Michael discuss these two lines in detail during his interview a few weeks back.

Now let’s dive into the flavor notes of the Elegancia and the Generoso!

Ferio Tego Elegancia

Cigar Specs

  • Country of Origin: Dominican Republic
  • Wrapper: Ecuador
  • Binder: Dominican Republic
  • Filler: Dominican Republic and Nicaragua
  • Cigar Strength: Medium to Full
  • Smoke Time: 75 minutes

This freshman cigar line landed the number one spot on Cigar Dojo’s Top Cigars of 2021 list, and for a good reason; its flavor profile is immaculate. Compared to a Chardonnay, the Elegancia has rich flavors of cream, bread, nuts, wood, and a touch of white pepper spice.

This graceful, elegant cigar from the Quesada factory is cloaked in a gorgeous Ecuadorian Wrapper, which is the prime source of these light flavor notes. If you’re looking for a new medium-bodied smoke that drifts towards the fuller side as you enter the second third, then the Elegancia is the one for you!

Check out Nick’s review in the video below, and be on the lookout for the 2022 Elegancia limited-edition release coming later this year.

Ferio Tego Generoso

Cigar Specs

  • Country of Origin: Nicaragua
  • Wrapper: Honduras
  • Binder: Nicaragua
  • Filler: Nicaragua
  • Cigar Strength: Full
  • Smoke Time: 75 minutes

Manufactured at the Plasencia cigar factory, this is the number three rated cigar from Cigar Dojo’s Top Cigars of 2021 list. The Generoso shares a similar body to the Elegancia but has a completely different flavor profile.

With a combination of dark and savory, some flavor notes you’ll detect while smoking the Generoso are chocolate, leather, earth, and coffee. These flavors are common when you have tobaccos from Nicaragua and Honduras in your cigar.

While sitting with Michael Herklots, I asked him if he could give me some good ideas for a beverage pairing alongside these gems. He suggested to me that I should absolutely pair the Elegancia with a glass of white wine, and the Generoso with a Sangria, or darker spirit such as a whiskey or bourbon.

Be on the lookout for the Ferio Tego Elegancia and Generoso LE 2022 releases later this year to add them in your humidor before they run out in the blink of an eye.
