Crafted By JR Aganorsa Cigar Review

Ten months after the first cigar under the Crafted By JR Cigars line was released with Crowned Heads, we brought a new one for you all to enjoy. Our second installment in our contemporary series joined forces with one of the most innovative companies and deep-rooted factories in the cigar industry, Aganorsa Leaf.

Crafted By JR Aganorsa, is a specialty blend that provides rich and complex flavor throughout your smoking experience. Created with savvy Cuban-seed tobacco, the Crafted by JR Aganorsa has a brown, reddish Mexican San Andres wrapper, while utilizing well-aged Nicaraguan tobacco for the binder and filler.

While smoking this medium-bodied 6 x 48 Toro, the only size under the Crafted by JR Aganorsa, I was able to have a delicious and reinvigorating smoking session that is expressed in greater detail in the review below. With each puff and draw, I was acquainted with new flavors every time.

Let’s dive into what my smoking experience of the Crafted by JR Aganorsa was like and hope you all enjoy.

Cold Draw Impressions

As I sat down to start smoking the Crafted by JR Aganorsa, I decided to use a V-Cut which provides an abundance of smoke output while puffing on a cigar. Before using my torch lighter, I did what I always do and did a cold draw test.

Upon the cold draw test, my palate detected hints of cherry and wood. Cigars with a heavy presence of Nicaraguan tobacco usually are loaded with tobacco sweetness through the entirety of the cigar. So, I was interested to see if that particular flavor note would arrive once the Crafted by JR Aganorsa was lit.

First Third Impressions

Fifteen minutes after lighting the Crafted by JR Aganorsa, the flavors were extremely prominent and were such a treat for my tastebuds. It wasn’t a complete shock to me that the flavors would mesh well together, being that the rich and well-grown tobacco utilized in the wrapper, binder, and filler was grown at Aganorsa’s farm in Nicaragua.

The flavors I detected in the cold draw were still present. The chocolate sweetness I was expecting in the cold draw made its way towards the middle of the first third, which clashed with cherry and wood gracefully.

Second and Final Third impressions

As I entered the second third and eventually smoked it to the final third, there was only one different and unique flavor note that kicked in adding itself to the mix. The cherry, wood, and chocolate flavor notes remained throughout which I was pleased with.

But midway between the second and final third, a citrusy, zesty flavor came in. It provided a kick that wasn’t too overpowering or a distraction from the flavors I first detected.

When smoking a cigar that is grown in Nicaragua and provides Nicaraguan tobaccos in the binder and filler portion of any cigar, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with zesty notes that add to the delicious flavor profile of cigars such as the Crafted by JR Aganorsa.

Pairing Options

Lately, I’ve been pairing every cigar I smoke with a hot cup of coffee. Yes, even in the hottest of days we’ve been experiencing this summer! But for this cigar, I wanted to pair it with my favorite soda of all time, Dr. Pepper.

The 23 flavors that Dr. Pepper has go well with pretty much anything. Whether it be your favorite pizza dish or mixing it with a Whiskey or Bourbon. I wanted to pair the Dr. Pepper alongside the Crafted by JR Aganorsa solely because I’ve never paired a Dr. Pepper with a cigar before.

As I usually tend to only pair cigars with coffee or water, I was a little hesitant to pair these two together because I didn’t want my palate to be overloaded. However, this pairing was a perfect combination and went extremely well together. I highly recommend this pairing if you’re a soda drinker!

Finall Thoughts

The Crafted by JR Aganorsa is a cigar that is worth investing your time and money in. From the elegant design of the band and packaging which matches the aesthetic of both JR Cigar and Aganorsa, the cigar itself is simply exquisite.

Being rolled and constructed in the Toro was the perfect size for the complexity of the tobaccos that were constructed in this cigar.

With a pack of 5 priced at $42.99, and a box of 10 at $84.99, the MSRP price for the Crafted by JR Aganorsa in either the 5 or 10 pack comes out to $8.40 per cigar. The way prices have risen throughout the industry, the Crafted by JR Aganorsa is worth every penny you’d be spending on a single, or the 5 and 10 packs provided on our website.

If you’re looking for something new to add to your collection today that represents cigars from yesteryear, then the Crafted by JR Aganorsa is the one for you!

Two key contributors to the Crafted by JR Aganorsa creation, Nick Libretti of JR Cigars and Terence Reilly of Aganorsa Leaf sat down on the Long Ash Podcast last week to discuss the project. If you’re interested in watching it, click here to check out the full episode!
