Charter Oak Cigars
Charter Oak cigars are a reasonably priced premium line from the prestigious Foundation Cigar Company. The brainchild of brand owner Nicholas Melillo, he wanted to create a blend that reaffirms his passion for top-quality U.S. Connecticut wrapper tobaccos in both light and dark shades.
Produced at the famous AJ Fernandez factory in Nicaragua, the core blend of these top-notch cigars consists of Nicaraguan filler tobaccos from the fertile growing regions of Estelí and Jalapa, covered in your choice of a silky, golden-brown shade, or a dark and oily Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. The cigars use a Sumatra binder for the shade version and a Nicaraguan Habano binder for the Maduro.
As for the name, Melillo chose “Charter Oak” for its relation to the state where these prized wrappers are grown. Charter Oak was the name given to an unusually large white oak tree growing on Wyllys Hyll in Hartford, Connecticut, from around the 12th or 13th century until it fell during a storm in 1856. Its memory continues as a symbol for the state of Connecticut that represents the freedom that inspired our colonial ancestors to resist tyranny and demand liberty.
The Connecticut Shade cigars provide an ultra-creamy mellow to medium-bodied experience with savory notes of cedar, graham cracker, honey, and a dash of pepper. The Broadleaf Maduro wrapped Charter Oak cigars, also mellow to medium-bodied in strength, produce a slightly heartier smoke that displays equally creamy notes of earth, wood, chocolate, espresso, caramel, nuts, and peppery spice.
If you’re looking for great tasting Connecticut-style cigar with top-notch construction, that won’t empty your wallet, Charter Oak may just be the ideal brand for you!
