A Very Hot Arturo Fuente – The God of Fire!

June 28, 2016

If you are a true Arturo Fuente fan like me (and just about everybody else), God of Fire by Don Carlos is a premium handmade cigar that most likely, you have been itching to try. The problem is, they are made in limited quantities, and are so darn popular that they can be very hard to find. Produced only once yearly, these luxury cigars are offered in 3 big ring sizes, the 6 x 50 Toro, and a 5.25 × 50 Robusto, also included is the beefy Robusto Gordo that weighs in at 5.5 x 54. Both the original Don Carlos blend and the God of Fire use aged Dominican binder and filler tobaccos for the binder and filler, however, Fire employs an Ecuador Habano wrapper as opposed to a toothy, and toasty tasting Cameroon found on the Don Carlos.

On paper, the classic Don Carlos is described as having a medium to full body strength, and the God of Fire by Don Carlos is considered a solid medium. I personally think God of Fire has a bit more kick, however taste is subjective, and every smoker’s palate is different- so you be the judge.

To me, Don Carlos has the classic Dominican Fuente taste. The cigar is loaded with complex notes of cocoa, nuts, cedar, and leather with a subtle spicy core. God of Fire on the other hand, due to the Ecauador Habano wrapper, I found it to have a more Cuban-style character.

Right off the bat, God of Fire is smooth and creamy. It has a woodsy flavor backed by subtle notes of sweet spice. The smoke was amazingly smooth from start to finish. At about the halfway point the cigar picked up some nutty notes and hints of espresso. The aroma, like all Arturo Fuente premium handmade cigars had that signature sweetness- and this one included hints of cinnamon. The cigar held its complexity and balance right down to the nub. As for the burn and the draw, it was perfect, and if you have ever smoked any other top-notch Arturo Fuente cigar, this should come as no surprise. In fact- you would be hard pressed to find a better-constructed stick anywhere.

God of Fire is smooth, elegant, easy smoking, and offers pure ultra-premium cigar smoking at its best! They do carry  a very steep price tag, but sometimes in life, you really do get what you pay for. Moreover, if you deem this stick too expensive for everyday consumption, you still owe it to yourself to make it one of your go-to special occasion smokes. It is certainly something every cigar smoker should try at least once.
