Long Ash Podcast Ep. 151: Alec Bradley Gets Paid!

March 3, 2023

On the latest episode of the Long Ash Podcast, Nick and Chris discuss the news that broke last week about the STG (Scandinavian Tobacco Group), owners of Cigar International, Thompson Cigars, General Cigars, and Room 101 cigars have purchased Alec Bradley for $72.5 million dollars. You may be thinking, what that will mean for the Rubin family as well as the industry moving forward?
There’s a lot to unpack here. On a personal level, we’re very happy for them. Alan started in the 90s and it wasn’t easy at first. But he has so many lines such as the Black Market, the Tempus, and Filthy Hooligan making major waves in the industry.
However, from the vantage point of employees and fans of the industry, it’s worrisome to think that this move could lead to many of the biggest brands being owned under one umbrella.

I think at the end of the day, we all want to be rewarded for all the hard work we’ve done. Alan Rubin is in a position where all the hard work has finally paid off and he can retire with some peace of security and mind.

The comments on Rubin being a “sellout” is something that doesn’t sit right with us. If you’re a fan of any cigar or manufacturer, you have a deep connection with them and you want the best for them because you know that they’re not going to leave you out to dry.

So for you to call them a sellout again, it comes off as if you don’t care about them and only acted about the service they were providing you. Here’s to Alan, Bradley, Alec, and the Rubin family. All the happiness to you. We’re excited about what this brings to their future, the future of the brand, and the future of the industry.
