Happy retirement (sort of) Gordon

November 7, 2014

If you subscribe to Cigar Aficionado, you may have noticed a change in the current issue. Tucked in the editor’s note is a Bon Voyage to Gordon Mott.  Gordon had been talking about cutting back for a while and he has finally pulled the trigger.  He and his wife have moved to Mexico—bit of a change from being in New York City everyday.   Gordon was Marvin Shanken’s first real hire when in 1991 he asked him if he wanted to work on a cigar magazine. Gordon said sure and the rest, they say, is history. Now, Gordon will be a senior contributing editor to the magazine.  His old duties now fall on David Savona—who jokingly tried to delay Gordon’s retirement as long as possible so he could get all the information out of him.   Dave is a newcomer having only been with the magazine for 19 years.  Stepping up to fill in David’s shoes as Senior Editor is the ultimate cigar nerd, Gregory Mottola.  With luck this means Dave will be home more often to be with his family and the heavy travel schedule will now belong to Greg.  Personally, all three are great guys and I wish them all the best.
