Discontinued Brand Alternatives -Mbombay

June 13, 2022

MBombay Cigars were founded in 2014  by Mel Shah, a former IT professional who turned his passion for premium cigars into a highly successful career. He started as a cigar store owner, then took it one step further by becoming a cigar manufacturer with a full line of popular brands released by his  Bombay Tobac Company in Costa Rica. It was here that Shah embraced his heritage by naming all of his brands and front marks after  Sanskrit terms.

For 7-years  Shah and his Bombay Tobac Company released a star-studded lineup of top-rated brands but abruptly ceased production in early 2022 for various unknown reasons. This left his loyal fanbase scurrying to find suitable cigar alternatives.  With that said, we decided to highlight three bestselling blends in the former Mbombay portfolio, with cigars that we feel can provide an equally complex and satisfying smoking experience.

MBombay Gaaja Cigars

MBombay Gaaja Cigars combines a  four-country blend of binder and long filler tobaccos, covered by a hybrid, mocha-colored Ecuadorian seed  Connecticut wrapper. The end result was a medium-bodied smoke with complex flavors of caramel sweetness, cocoa,  cedar, and hints of white pepper.

Our top choice to replace Mbombay Gaaja is the  Henry Clay Warhawk. Featuring a stunning golden-brown Ecuadorian seed Connecticut wrapper, Warhawk is packed with a tasty Honduran binder and long filler tobacco from Honduras. The end result is a medium-bodied smoke with captivating flavors of nuts, earth, cocoa, some sweetness, and a peppery finish. Other choices to replace MBombay Gaaja include Undercrown Shade, Davidoff Signature Series, and Perdomo Double Aged 12-Year Vintage Connecticut.

2-MBombay Mora Cigars

MBombay Mora Cigars are highlighted by a rare  Dominican Corojo wrapper that conceals a Peruvian binder and a core of fully aged long-fillers from the Dominican Republic and Ecuador. Each puff provided a fragrant medley of flavors that includes cashews, leather, coffee, and hints of chocolate, resulting in a smooth medium-bodied experience.

Complimenting the smooth character and taste of Mbombay Mora is the highly popular  Kristoff Corojo Limitada Cigars. Meticulously handcrafted in a small batch fashion, Kristoff  Corojo Limitada utilizes a core of Nicaraguan and Dominican long-fillers snuggled inside a Nicaraguan Habano binder and a stunning Nicaraguan Habano Corojo wrapper. The cigars are medium-bodied, well-balanced, and smooth, offering luscious notes of nutmeg, leather, cocoa, and sweet spices. Other choices to replace MBombay Mora include Romeo y Julieta 1875, Baccarat Nicaragua, and Bellas Artes by AJ Fernandez.

3-MBombay Kesara

MBombay Kesara is a stunning handmade premium cigar that features an Ecuadorian wrapper and binder, encasing hand-selected long-filler tobacco from the Dominican Republic and Peru. A rich medium-to-full-bodied flavor profile of earth, black pepper, roasted nuts, and cream made this cigar a very popular choice among well-seasoned cigar smokers.

Equally bold, delicious, and readily available here at JR Cigar are the  Montecristo Platinum Series Cigars.  These bolder Monte’s are expertly fashioned with a select Mexican wrapper grown in the legendary San Andres Valley, along with a rich Dominican binder,  and a special blend of aged Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Peruvian long-filler tobaccos. This all amounts to slow-burning medium-to-full bodied smoke with tantalizing flavors of white pepper, earth, leather, cocoa, and spice. Other choices to replace MBombay Kesara includes H. Upmann Crafted By AJ Fernandez, Black Abyss Nicaragua, and JR Ultimate by Rocky Patel.
