Cigar Factory Tours You Should Try

It is every cigar smoker’s dream trip to visit the factories of their favorite manufacturers.  While years ago, this seemed like a pipe dream, today, several companies have made it into a reality.  Several of the top premium cigar producers organize yearly tours of their facilities, including visits to the fields and factories.

While some of these tours occur during festivals and include quick trips to many factories, some manufacturers run solo trips to take you through their entire process.  Let’s look at some of the top cigar tours you can attend.

Drew Estate Cigar Safari

The Cigar Safari from Drew Estate is probably the most popular solo factory tour.  Each year, the company organizes several trips to visit its facilities in the heart of Esteli, Nicaragua.  While it was postponed during the civil unrest in the country, the tour should be back up and running this year.

You’ll have the chance to visit the fields and factories of one of the largest producers of premium cigars in the world.  What’s more, the company puts you up in its guest quarters built specifically for trips like this.  The Drew estate factory is not only one of the largest in the world, but is also one of the most modern, making this a perfect trip for the Drew fans.

Camp Camacho Factory Tour

This is one of the few trips people can take to Honduras and it is organized by the legendary Camacho brand. Camacho is among the best-selling Honduran brands in the world and has created a great many iconic cigars, including the Triple Maduro and American Barrel aged.

During your visit, you’ll get to see first-hand how the tobacco is harvest, cured and rolled as well as a chance to see their legendary aging rooms.  While there are several tours and festivals throughout Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, this is one of the few opportunities you’ll have to visit a large Honduran facility.

Davidoff Factory Tour

This is a trip I’ve been trying so hard to take, and it looks like next year it will finally happen.  Davidoff is seen as the highest of the high end, so a chance to see the brand’s operation in person is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  Think of it as an opportunity to see where Bentleys are made, or a tour around the Patek Phillipe factory.

On this tour, you’ll have an opportunity to see — first hand — how some of the finest cigars in the world are made.  From their field cultivation to their blending process, being able to see how Davidoffs are made is a dream come true for so many cigar smokers.

Puro Sabor

The Nicaraguan Cigar Festival is back and bigger than ever.  Over five days you’ll be able to visit countless factories, including Perdomo, My Father, RoMa Craft, and AJ Fernandez.  Combined that with several parties and high-end galas — you’re in for a hell of a time.  For more on the Puro Sabor festival, you can check out our article from last month.

Pro Cigar

Pro Cigar is next on my list for must-take trips.  Known as the Dominican Cigar festival, you’ll be able to experience all the glory that is the Dominican cigar industry.  From fields to factories such as Arturo Fuente and La Flor Dominican, this is the ultimate cigar experience for many Dominican fans.
