Cigar Aficionado Top 25 of 2015 – #3, #2

December 17, 2015

We are coming down to the wire here folks. So far we have seen some old favorites show up on this list including Liga Privada, Padron and Fuente. Il admit, today I was shocked yet pleased by a very surprising entry. Lets see who nabbed the #3 and #2 spots.

3.) CAO Flatehead V660 Carb– CAO has been on the rise in recent years and nothing punctuates that more then their place in the Top 10 Cigars of the Year. Coming in at #3 is their new CAO Flathead series. I loved this cigar the moment I first tried it. It was retro yet modern with an awesome concept and a delectable flavor profile. All the CAO Flateheads are meant to represent the motor head culture. They each are designed after famous American engines. The Carb 660 is a delicious medium to full body. It uses a rich, dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper which gives it great notes of leather and molasses. That is followed by a Connecticut Habano binder and a blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican long filler tobaccos. It has a delicate spice and a rich smoky profile. It is a well constructed and well rounded thick box press. This 6 x 60 was rated 95.

2.) Ramon Allones Specially Selected- The Ramon Allones is one of the little gems from the island of Cuba. It doesn’t have the popularity of Montecristo or Cohiba, but a true Aficionado knows this is one of the best Cuban cigars for the price you will ever find. I included on my list of Top 10 Cuban Cigars. This small smoke is incredibly complex. It has deep notes of coffee and espresso with a surprising citrus finish. It is of course rolled with only vintage Cuban tobaccos. This 4 7/8 X 50 was rated 96.

Tomorrow is the big day, lets see who claims the illustrious Cigar of The Year.
