Best Cigars to Smoke for Red Dead Redemption 2

This week, the insanely popular Red Dead Redemption 2 makes its way to PCs.  Being quite an avid gamer, I have been a pretty serious fan of the game since its launch last year.  To celebrate it being now available on PC, I decided to go ahead and throw together a quick list of the best cigars to enjoy while playing Red Dead Redemption 2.

Oscar Valladares Wild Hunter

For any fan of the game, you know that hunting plays a major role in your story.  You need to hunt wild game to keep your camp fed and build your talismans.  The master hunter challenge is particularly popular among gamers, so I thought “what better cigar to enjoy during the hunt then the brand-new Wild Hunter from Oscar Vallardes?”

The Wild Hunter is handcrafted in Honduras and is available in both a natural and Maduro wrapper.  The idea came to Oscar after attending several cigar events and realizing that many of his customers were avid hunters.  The cigar comes in a camouflage box as well with camo bands, making it a great cigar while waiting for your 10-point buck.

Crowned Heads J.D. Howard Reserve

While he is not a playable character, the influence of Jesse James can be felt throughout the game.  In fact, in one of the early trailers for Red Dead Redemption 2, they showcase had a scene that acted as a homage to the film The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.  Needless to say, Jesse James will always play a role in Old Wes Culture.

It turns out that the legendary outlaw plays a part in cigar culture as well.  The J.D. Howard Reserve from Crowned Heads takes its name from one of the aliases James would use. This Brazilian wrapped Nicaraguan cigar sure packs in the flavor and is sure to keep you going through hours of gameplay.

Henry Clay Rustic Cheroot

The classic cheroot is a parejo cigar with both ends cut, making it very easy to manufacture on a large scale.  This, in turn, made them cheap and easy to produce, making them one of the go-to cigars in the Old West.  Take a look at any Western film, and most likely you will see them puffing away on an old, cheroot style cigar.

Where the Henry Clay Rustic Cheroot differs, is that it adds in a traditional Cuban element, the pigtail, for a little bit of flair.  This bold, Honduran cigar will give you a ton of rich, heavy flavors, and the feeling that you are riding your trusty steed into the sunset.

Southern Draw Quickdraw

Fans of the game understand that the art of dueling can literally mean life or death for your character. Being able to be quick on the draw is one of the key elements for progressing through the game and making sure any local gunslinger gets what’s coming to them.

I felt that the Southern Draw Quickdraw was another great option not just because of its name, but for the variety of wrapper options and sizes, similar to the variety of weapons available in Red Dead Redemption 2.

For a blast of heavy rich flavor, like the repeating shotgun, you can go for the Pennsylvania Broadleaf.  Something sleek and spicy like the Carcano rifle, you can enjoy the Ecuadorian Habano.  Lastly, if you want something smooth and reliable, such as the Double-Action Revolver, you can light up the Ecuadorian Connecticut.

Remember, try not to get any ash on your controller or keyboard, and never ride your horse into the water.
