Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva Cigars: A Modern Day Classic

May 7, 2019

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva cigars are the core line in the huge and ever-growing Fuente portfolio of cigars. They have been a top choice among smokers for many decades thanks to their consistent quality and flavor, pristine construction, and very reasonable price. This legendary Dominican cigar-making family, now headed by Carlos Fuente Jr, produces Gran Reserva in many popular shapes and sizes, the most notable being the revered 6 x47 Arturo Fuente 8-5-8, made with fully aged, estate grown Dominican binder and filler tobaccos covered by a toothy Cameroon wrapper. The 8-5-8, Cuban Corona, Privada #1, Churchill, Corona Imperial,  and all other sizes in the Gran Reserva cigar line, are also available in a very dark and oily Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper atop the same blend of Dominican tobaccos. In addition, the Gran Reserva line is one of the few brands that still features the rare green Candela wrapper on the 8-5-8, the Churchill, and the Spanish Lonsdale sizes. This once enormously popular leaf among American smokers imparts a fruity pineapple-like sweetness to a mellow blend of cedar, cocoa, hay, and leather. It’s a nostalgic cigar that long-time, old-school smokers find very rewarding.

When choosing Cameroon covered Gran Reserva cigars, expect a mellow to medium bodied smoke with a fragrant tapestry of coffee, nuts, spice, cinnamon, cream, and the signature sweet flavors and aromas that distinguish this enormously popular brand from all others. The same signature sweetness can be found on the Maduro wrapped Gran Reserva cigars, along with lush dark tobacco flavors of chocolate, nuts, coffee, spice, and some fruity components.

The Chateau Fuente Series cigars, another integral part of the Gran Reserva line, is packed in aromatic cedar sleeves to further enhance the taste and aroma while accelerating the aging process. Handmade in the Dominican Republic, these cigars come in 3 wrapper varieties: Natural, Maduro, and Sun Grown. The Natural features a golden Connecticut Shade wrapper; the Maduro sports a dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper; and the Sun Grown boasts a spicy Ecuador wrapper. The Natural and Maduro are richly flavored and mellow to medium-bodied, while the Sun Grown leaf bumps the strength up to medium, and provides a more, spicy and robust experience.

The luxury-end line of the Gran Reserva portfolio consists of the rare and prized Arturo Fuente Hemingway cigars. Named for the cigar-smoking, celebrated American novelist of the same name, the Hemingway series by Arturo Fuente Cigars has quickly become one of the most popular All- Figurado lines in the world. These highly respected, exquisitely hand rolled cigars are fashioned with deeply aged, mellow-medium Dominican filler tobaccos, a Dominican binder, and a delicate vintage West African Cameroon wrapper. Aged for six months to achieve its velvety smooth flavor, the discerning cigar enthusiast will savor a medium bodied smoke with impossibly rich and buttery smooth nuances of spice, wood, cocoa, sweet leather, and cedar. The rare Arturo Fuente Hemingway Between The Lines cigar is dressed in both a  Cameroon and Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper that’s fashioned in a striking barber pole design, to add a double dose of these scrumptious flavors.

Whichever style of Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva cigars you chose, you’ll quickly find out why the Arturo Fuente brand ranks as one of the best cigars ever made!
