IPCPR 2019: Room 101 Cigars

July 8, 2019

The 2019 IPCPR show marked the third year since Matt Booth and Room 101 has returned to the cigar industry, and this year he came to play with 4 new cigar releases.  With the FDA regulations, any new release is a risk, especially with a company as small as Room 101, but that didn’t stop Boofy from showing up in force, or should we say Farce, with four new cigar releases.  While one of them is a line addition and one is a redux of an old brand, he also introduced two brand new lines to the show this year.

The biggest news from Room 101 was the announcement of the revival of the Big Payback cigar.  Back when Matt was under contract with Davidoff, the Big Payback proved to be his best selling and most popular cigar.  It is now back with a new blend forma  new factory.  The new Big Payback cigar is hand rolled at the General Cigar factory using a stunning Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over tobaccos from Nicaragua, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.  The icing on the cake is that just like the original release, the Big Payback is a high end premium cigar at an everyday price, with an average per cigar cost of around $7.

Room 101 added a new maduro version to their Farce line.  The Room 101 Farce maduro uses a Mexican San Andres wrapper over a Sumatra binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the US.  The addition of this darker offering rounds out the Farce line which already offers a Connecticut and Ecuadorian version.

One of the most exciting releases of the show was the Room 101 Doomsayer.  This bold and beautiful smoke, which is rolled at the Caldwell factory in the Dominican, will be available in two different versions.  The Habano version uses a wrapper from Ecuador, and Indonesian binder and a plethora of aged filler tobaccos from Nicaragua, Honduras and Pennsylvania.  For the maduro version, Matt Booth refused to release details on the wrapper but the interal tobaccos are the same as the Habano.

The final new cigar Room 101 showcased at IPCPR 2019 is the Room 101 10th Anniversary.  This limited smoke uses a Nicaraguan Rosado wrapper and was made at the AJ Fernandez factory.  It will be an incredibly limited release with only 500 boxes being made.

These new cigars from Room 101 will be hitting our shelves in the coming weeks, but until then the entire lineup of cigars from Room 101 is available at JR Cigars.
