IPCPR 2019: Joya de Nicaragua

July 8, 2019

Joya de Nicaragua was the talk of the IPCPR 2019 trade show, showcasing several new cigars including some of the most anticipated cigars of the year.  Like previous years, Joya de Nicaragua was set up with in the giant Drew Estate booth, but with a whole area dedicated to themselves.  The past year has been a huge celebration for the company, with them reaching their 50th anniversary.  Of course with a big celebration comes a slue of new cigars that are among the most anticipated in the industry.

In case you are unfamiliar, the famous Joya de Nicaragua brand is headed by Dr. Alejandro Martinez-Cuenca. When he bought the brand in 1994, Joya was still reeling from a civil war in Nicaragua that left the brand on shaky ground. With the release of Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970, Dr. Cuenca not only revitalized the Joya brand, but helped kickstart Nicaragua into being the cigar powerhouse it is today.

In terms of a general release, Joya de Nicaragua has released a new addition to their famed Antano line.  While the original Joya de Nicaragua 1978 Antano is known for its strength and bold flavors, this year they added a Connecticut to the mix.  The Joya de Nicaragua Antano CT uses similar filler and binder tobaccos to the original but now with a sleek and stunning Connecticut wrapper.  It is smooth but maintains a solid medium body profile giving you the best of both worlds.

The new cigar that really caught the worlds attention is the Joya de Nicaragua Numero Uno.  This cigar was initially created several years ago as a gift for diplomats and visiting politicians.  It was then made an even only cigar but proved so popular that they have finally announced a full production.  This cigar was actually named the best cigar of the year in 2018 by Halfwheel, a first for an event only cigar.  It uses a Connecticut wrapper and a mix of fillers that give it a smooth yet rich center and its size showcases some of the best construction we saw a the entire show.

Joya was also showcasing a new, limited size of its Joya de Nicaragua Cinco Decadas line.  This 2018 releases was among the highest rated of the year and was made to celebrate the companies 50th Anniversary.  This new size is a 6X52 toro and will be very limited in its release.

While these new cigars will be hitting our shelves with in the next few months, you can find the full lineup of cigars from Joya de Nicaragua right here at JR Cigars.
