Drew Estate’s Liga Privada Undercrown was originally created by the talented torcedores of the Drew Estate factory for their own enjoyment and is now available for the smoking pleasure of cigar lovers everywhere. The story behind the creation of this well-made medium to full-bodied cigar is pretty interesting. It started back in 2009 when the rollers were told that they needed to stop smoking so many of their favorite cigar, one the popular Liga Privada blends, because the inventory of both the cigar and it’s rare tobaccos were getting too low for them to import. Instead of smoking something different they began blending their own cigars from the same tobaccos that make-up another similar Liga Privada blend, using different primings or vintages for their own smoking pleasure. Jonathan Drew smoked a few and enjoyed them so much that he put them into production so they could be enjoyed by all.
The Undercrown is covered in a beautiful dark brown San Andres maduro wrapper that adds some spicy sweetness to the blend making its presence known at first-light and continues throughout the smoke. The construction is perfect with a nice solid feel to it. Once this dark beauty is lit there’s plenty of smoke from the foot and draw that continues to the very end. The initial flavors are of sweet espresso, almonds and spice. The Brazilian Mata Fina in this long filler blend makes itself known by the creamy richness of the smoke and keeps the spiciness of Nicaraguan Cuban Seed tobaccos from going past the medium to full-bodied level. It is densely packed to perfection with a nice slow burn, with complex flavors of coffee, dark chocolate and black pepper. This is a must try for lovers of dark, medium to full-bodied cigars, with a slow burn and lots of flavorful rich creamy smoke.
