MONTECRISTO CERTIFIED VINTAGE
WRAPPER: Connecticut Shade BINDER: Dominican Republic FILLER: Dominican Republic
In 1995 Menendez y Garcia (a.k.a. Tabacalera de Garcia) launched the Dominican Montecristo brand. These cigars in the familiar bright-yellow box with the crossed-swords logo became an instant success and inspired a number of additional brand extensions in ensuing years.
Those from the production years 1994 through 1997 are made with all-Dominican tobaccos (with the exception of one superb USA-grown Connecticut shade wrapper).
The factory hung onto these cigars to check blend consistency from year to year, and insisted on keeping the samples from 1999 for comparison, through much negotiation (begging), and requests (pleading) ... we were finally able get hold of a limited quantity!
The oddball in this lot is the medium-to-full bodied 2001 Buena Fortuna, one of the factory’s first attempts at a Connecticut broadleaf maduro-wrapped cigar.
This Buena Fortuna is a bit of a departure from its H2000 wrapped version, which sports a spicy, chocolate-brown Habana 2000 wrapper. This Buena Fortuna sports a Connecticut broadleaf maduro-wrapper, but is the same box-pressed, superbly handcrafted, medium to full bodied masterpiece, with a mild peppery core and a smooth robust flavor that will satisfy even the most discerning palate.
Aged for years to perfection, these cigars are a taste sensation you won't want to miss.
