WRAPPER: Connecticut Broadleaf BINDER: Dominican Republic FILLER: Dominican Republic
Music and cigars have always been a great combination, but not many musicians would have spent two years of their life searching for the right person and factory to make the perfect cigar. But then again Avo Uvezian is not your usual musician or cigar enthusiast. He’s the composer of “Broken Guitar” the proto-type for Frank Sinatra’s 1966 hit song “Strangers in the Night,” and has been producing Avo cigars since 1987.
While in Switzerland for his daughter Karyn's christening in 1983, Avo enjoyed some Cuban cigars after a nice meal and was outraged by the price he was charged for each cigar. One of his friends suggested that he should make his own and that’s exactly what he did. After spending two years in the Dominican Republic on his quest, he finally chose Hendrik Kelner and made him an offer to make a full-production line of cigars for him. After smoking his first samples, he was so impressed that he offered Kelner twenty five percent more than his original offer to ensure that his Avo cigars would only be made from the finest tobacco. Shortly after the successful launch of his Avo cigar line Uvezian made a deal for Davidoff to distribute them world-wide. And the rest is history, with the Avo brand still being one of the most sought after brands by Aficionados world-wide.
Welcome to the dark side of Avo.
Wrapped in USA-grown Connecticut broadleaf, these cigars are somewhat fuller in body than the Avo Classic, and are composed of all-Dominican filler tobaccos. The wrapper is aged for three years and naturally fermented twice to produce a deep, rich color and one-of-a-kind flavor. The blend of five different tobaccos results in a medium body, rich flavor, and a delightful aroma. If you’re a fan of maduro cigars, you’re sure to welcome this expertly crafted dark one into your humidor!
