The very best of the best selling premium cigar brand ever. General Cigar is one of the very few manufacturers that actually plant, grow, harvest, and process their own Connecticut shade wrappers, and in fact is probably the Number two grower in the Connecticut River Valley, second only to an individual farmer named Oliver Thrall.
It was General Cigar that first launched the process of declaring Vintage Years for their wrapper crops. These were years where the wrappers had exceptional clarity and burn characteristics. Then they would produce Macanudo Vintage cigars with these wrappers indicating the year of origin of the crop: 1979, 1988, etc.
While wrappers were always sorted and selected for this purpose, there were years when the quality was there, but the quantity was not commercially viable. Nevertheless, these cigars were made each year even if for comparison purposes only. Through an unimaginable amount of arm twisting (and a whole bunch of money) we were able to secure the following out of production Macanudo Vintage cigars.
